Fall 2013 Trends: Nail Polishes

Good bye bright neons, hello to darker jewel tones! Fall is the season of transition, and before I break out those vampy reds and festive glitters, now is the time for the rich jewel tones to complement the shift in fashion from airy and light to layered and chic. Here are the top six trends of polishes I have spotted, as well as some suggestions of my favorites for each category.

Deep Reds
Just like last year, these deep reds and oxbloods are back in. First up is OPI: Got the Blues for Red and Lippmann Collection: Lady is a Tramp, which are just two basic dark reds with no added glitter or special sheen. Next I have OPI: Every Month is Oktoberfest which is almost like a black with some fine ruby red glitter that is a beautiful example of a sparkly oxblood. Last up is Essie: It's Genius, which I think is a slight stretch as a red because it does come off a little more fuchsia with a gold chrome to it, but it is still a beautiful color and a fun transition shade between summer and fall trends.

Emerald Green & Chartreuse
So I know I said no more neons, but chartreuse is actually a hot color for this fall, enter Essie: The More The Merrier. I find applying a matte coat tones down the funky brightness to this color making for a nice chic look. As Pantone's proclaimed color of the year, emerald is still going strong into fall and this beautiful shade by Essie: Going Incognito is perfect for a trendy manicure.

Poppy
Poppy, or a nice red orange is also hot for this fall. As a nod to a summer favorite of coral, it is easy to see how this shade lands a spot as a great transition shade. I have pulled L'Oreal: L'orangeNailtini: Mai Tai, and Ruffian: Fox Hunt as my picks for this category.

Cobalt Blue
This nice deep blue is also in the fall lineup. The cult favorite of Essie: Butler Please falls neatly into this category, as well as this other polish Butter London: Blagger. This is also a shade in which I feel applying a matte shade brings a manicure to the next level.

Chromes
This has to be my most favorite and highly anticipated nail color trend. I have always loved chromes but felt they are too heavy (it makes sense in my head) and flashy for summertime. Here are my favorite picks including two rose gold type shades Color Club: Put a Pin In It and Orly: Rage, a beautiful grey/blue/purple chrome Essie: For The Twill of It, and last a stunning gold/grey/blue shade Color Club: Editorial.

Grays
Grays are a nice neutral nail that works well paired with any outfit. I have pulled a few different shades that would all work well together and be able to mix and match accent nails. From left to right this is Essie: Smokin' Hot, Essie Chinchilly, and Color Club: Silver Lake.

Lastly a great trend for fall is rocking a matte nail. Leather is in this year and giving your manicure a matte finish mirrors this trend. Essie makes a great matte coat, but almost all brands have options to achieve this beautiful flat finish.

What are some nail color trends you'll be rocking this fall?
