UnBoxing Match! October 2013 Ipsy vs. Birchbox

It's the most exciting time of the month where my Ipsy bag and Birchbox get to face off in an unboxing match and see who comes out on top!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with these services, Ipsy and Birchbox are two beauty subscription boxes that come monthly. Both of these cost $10 a month and each arrive with 4-5 different goodies. Ipsy, I have found, tends to have an even mix of well known and obscure brands, and can be pretty reliable about providing full sized makeup products; while Birchbox tends to be geared more towards the hair and skincare products in sample sizes. While I keep telling myself I need to cancel one, I love how they each offer a different side to my beauty routine and have stuck to them both every since. Let's get right into the unboxing and some first impressions of what I got.

Initial reaction: Finally no more horrible mascara samples! This bag is adorable and I think it will be perfect for corralling all my lip products in my purse.
1. $8 Zoya Nail Polish in Neve which is a full sized product. I've been wanting to try this brand so I am thrilled to see it in my bag especially in a color that I do not have in my collection.
2. $15 Bella Terra Mineral Shimmers in Emotion which is a full sized product. I have never tried a loose pigment shadow before so this will be fun to
3. $2.50 Coastal Scents Medium Eyeshadow Brush which is a full sized product. This is great to receive because recently I just started building up my makeup brushes so glad to have another one to add to my collection.
4. ~$1 Nourish Organic Coconut & Argan Body Lotion which is a deluxe sample size. This is perfect because I was needing a travel sized lotion and here it is magically appearing at my door step. It has a nice vanilla-y coconut smell to it so I think I will like this.
5. $8 Sexy Hair Texturizing Spray Clay which came a travel sized product. I don't like fussing with my hair so I wasn't overly excited to see this in my bag. This will probably get passed onto someone else and won't be something I even try.
Approximate Value: $34.50

Initial reaction: Wow the samples are huge this month! After being really disappointed the last few months this box really impressed me and at a glance I think I'm going to love everything I got!
1. ~$3 theBalm cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen. I was so excited to see this, after trying and loving Benetint I really wanted to try something else like it. Nice rosy color I will probably try this one on my cheeks. Decent sized sample because a little really goes a long way.
2. $25 Dermablend Professional Smooth Indulgence Mineral Finishing Powder in Amber. Hello full sized product! So excited to try this out, but seeing as I have a few similar products in action right now this one will go ino the orphan drawer for the time being.
3. $3 Chapstick Hydration Lock in Vanilla Creme. I actually very excited for this because this brand works great with my lips. Looking forward to trying out this new product.
4. ~$6 Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser which was a decent sized sample of the cleanser. I really like trying new face washes and I'm interested in seeing how this one works out.
5. $3 Liz Earle Pure Muslin Cloth is the only one I thought was a little cheap that his counted as one of my samples, but still interested to see if it does have the great exfoliating power that it boasts.
Approximate Value: $40

Overall great products this month from both of them. I must say that Birchbox has won October for me, giving me five products I am stoked to try while Ipsy gave me good stuff, but things I already have duplicates or just not as excited over in comparison to what Birchbox had to offer. Until next month!

What did you get in your boxes and bags this month? Which did you think won?
