UnBoxing Match! November 2013 Ipsy vs. Birchbox

'Why is it that Ipsy always takes so much longer to ship?? I stare at the tracking information on a daily basis and for some reason it gets shipped as far as the next town over from me by DHL and then proceeds to sit in the post office there for a full five days before they decide to bring it to my house. Kind of wish I could drive over and just pick it up myself. Nevertheless here they are!!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with these services, Ipsy and Birchbox are two beauty subscription boxes that come monthly. Both of these cost $10 a month and each arrive with 4-5 different goodies ranging from sad little foil packets to full size products!

Ipsy
Initial reaction: I LOVE this bag! I can totally see myself using it as a clutch! It's the perfect size and obviously with the strap it was totally intended for this. And also wow six items that are pretty much all full sized!! This month theme was Glam It Up.
1. $20 Lash Gallery Mascara by em Cosmetics in black is a full sized product. I knew this was coming everyone was getting a full sized em Cosmetics product. However I'm really disappointed it's a mascara, I probably will end up giving it away, I have so much mascara and really no interest trying anything new, especially since these received some pretty bad reviews.
2.  $14 Be a Bombshell Lip Crayon in Shameless is a full sized product. I'm excited for this, always a fan of trying out new lip crayons! This color is gorgeous too like a berry wine with a slight sparkle, I tried this immediately and it went on so smoothly and felt hydrating on my lips.
3. $13 Nailtini in Champagne is a full sized product. I do enjoy seeing nail polishes in my bags however I must say I do have several colors similar to this in my collection. However there is less glitter in this one than my other rose gold colors and is a little metallic.
4. $15 Pixi Beauty Bronzer in Summertime is a full sized product. This did not come with the kabuki brush that normally is provided when you get it off their site so I knocked off a few dollars. The mascara sample I received was pretty awful but I'm still looking forward to trying out this bronzer. This darker color will be great for contouring.
5. $14 Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil in Topaz is a full sized product. I'm not much of a metallic eye liner kind of girl but this could potentially be fun for the holidays thinly layered over some black liquid liner, will definitely give this a try.
6. $19 GlamGlow YouthMud is a sample sized product. I am SO excited to have this in my bag! After viewing so may rave reviews I finally get to try this out!! I smell a spa day coming up!
Approximate Value: $95.00

Birchbox
Initial Reaction: Seriously, tea? It came with a little booklet too which was actually quite fun with a lot of gift ideas of products. The theme this month is More Good in the sense of giving back in honor of Thanksgiving.
1. $8 Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in black is a sample sized product. I've recently started experimenting with liquid eyeliner (it's pretty horrifying right now), so I'm excited to try this out and be able to figure out which type of applicator tip I like better, this one is more of a felt tip rather than a brush.
2. $6 Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator is a sample sized product. I do love these small travel sized face cleansers, and this one is a nice scrub so I am excited to try it out. Basically scentless too which is fab.
3. $2 BeeKind Body Lotion is a sample sized product. This one really disappointed me, I don't use body lotion I use coconut oil for moisturizing, so into the Orphan Drawer goes this, someday I may get around to using it for the sake of just decluttering. Smells a little funky too.
4. $4 Color Club Nail Polish in On the Rocks is a sample (or mini) sized product. I actually do not own plain metallic silver polish so I'm pleased to add this to my collection and can picture it making it's way onto a variety of manicures.
5. $2 Might Leaf Tea Pouches in a sample trio of Green Tea Tropical, Organic African Nectar, and Vanilla Bean. I must say I was a little annoyed at first to receive tea instead of a beauty product, however I've been trying to replace juice and coffee with tea lately so I am interested in trying out new brands to find out what I like.
Approximate Value: $22.00

Great job to both! I must say this is actually a tie for me, I pretty much loved everything that came in both boxes this month. Ipsy's value was outrageous this month, basically all full sized products valuing nearly $100!! I got a very different sampling of products this month and two nail polishes! Win.

What did you get in your boxes and bags this month? Which did you think won?
