2013 MVP: Most Valuable Products

Another year is coming to a close and I have the privilege of trying out a whole host of products. However even with my vast experimenting (and slight hoarding of makeup) there are some truly exceptional products that I feel warrant special recognition for their awesomeness this year. Here's a roundup of these tried and true products that I just keep coming back to time and time again.

  • Daisy by Marc Jacobs. This is without a doubt the best perfume ever. It smells so fresh and feminine and is truly suitable for all seasons. Funny enough the predominate floral scent is actually violet (not daisies!) and it keeps the sweetness balanced with lovely musky, woodsy notes that cuts through it for a more grown up scent.
  • Maybelline Color Tattoos. These are the best things ever. They make fantastic eye shadow bases, and are lovely worn by themselves too. They are so creamy and easy to apply and so ridiculously pigmented and long lasting. They are really affordable too, a few dollars at the drug store! Even though I have a lot of other eye primers and such, I find myself reaching for this much more frequently.
  • CoverGirl Clump Crusher. I love this mascara even more than any high end mascara I have tried. It defines, curls and lengthens my lashes like a dream. Often a sandwich any kind of volumizing mascara between applications of this stuff and my stick straight lashes always look amazing. Also no clumps, flaking or smudging, I just adore it so much.
  • Marvelous Moxie Lipstick. This was a fairly recent purchase of mine, but really has changed my mind when it comes to lipsticks. These are so creamy and hydrating on my lips and easy to apply. The colors are so richly pigmented and wear great all day even through meal times. It's my goal to own them all.
  • L'Oreal BB Cream. I rave about this all the time, but it really is the best BB cream ever. Keeps me matte all day and shrinks my pores like a dream. It is also an awesome base for any foundation and really works well with my skin.
  • Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer. This is my one stop shop for concealing anything and everything. I love the brush that comes on the tube, makes it so easy to apply onto my face and I just use a sponge to blend it in. The coverage is fantastic, I've been wearing just the concealer and then setting my whole face with powder and that's it.
  • OPI Natural Nail Strengthener and Top Coat. This duo has made a world of difference in not only the longevity of my lacquers, but also the health of my nails. I used to never use a base coat and had some pretty badly stained nails (they were like yellow, ew) that became really brittle. It was a conundrum where I needed to not wear polish so my nails could get better, yet they were so gross looking it horrified me not to wear something to cover it up. This OPI base coat really has helped my nails, it allows me to wear polish non stop but maintain the health and strength of my nails.
  • St. Ives Oatmeal & Shea Butter Body Wash. I was a long time Dove body wash user, but when I took a chance on this stuff, I will never go back. This stuff is truly the most moisturizing body wash I have ever use, I noticed how soft my skin became after just one use! The smell is just so warm, but unimposing so it works great for those who aren't into those heavy sweet fragrances.
  • Garnier Dark Spot Corrector. I had pretty bad acne as a teenager and once I started using this stuff I noticed a drastic improvement in those acne scars. I've been using this for over an year now and I'm proud to report even the most stubborn dark spots that I've had for years are basically gone now and I'm lucky enough to once more have pretty much perfectly even skin tone (when it comes to dark spots, I still have the occasional redness).
  • Lorac Pro Palette. Best purchase ever basically. I really love every single color in this palette and the mix of the shimmer and mattes. I can create so many looks with these colors and when I travel this is the only palette I bring with me. Special favorites of mine are Champagne, Pewter and Sable.
  • NYX Butter Glosses. I have never been a lip gloss fan because I've only ever had bad experience with sticky, drying messes. These have completely changed my mind when it comes to glosses. They smell delicious, are super moisturizing and all the colors really work well to compliment any lip color. My favorite two colors are Creme Brulee and Vanilla Cream Pie.
  • Benefit's Hello Flawless! Powder. I rediscovered this recently because my skin tone is finally light enough to match the color I have, and it just reminded me how much I love it. This makes my skin look so silky smooth as if it has been Photoshop airbrushed, I kid you not. I'll definitely get a lot of use with this throughout winter and spring, and then will probably pick up a darker shade for summer next year.
What are some of your MVPs for this year?
