DIY: Glitzy NYE Nail Art!

I've been meaning to do a nail art tutorial for awhile now, but it's difficult and I wasn't sure if it would translate as well in a blog as it would in video, but here we go let's just try this out!

Just because you're decked out in sequins for New Year's Eve, there's no reason you can't bling out your nails too! Today I'm going to show you how to do a fun and easy manicure inspired by glitter and fireworks! First up gather these following supplies, I put in parenthesis the specific polishes I used:

  • Black nail polish (Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Black Satin)
  • White nail polish (Sephora by OPI White Hot)
  • Top and base coat (OPI Natural Nail Strengthener and OPI Top Coat)
  • Hexagonal glitter nail polish (OPI When Monkeys Fly!)
  • Gold or silver metallic nail polish (Orly Rage)
  • Any 3 colors for fireworks (Essie Jamaica Me Crazy, Essie Naughty Nautical, Butter London Cheeky Chops)
  • Dotting tools or toothpicks
  • A makeup sponge (or a q-tip works great too)
First put down a base coat on your nails. Since we are using black all over the base coat will prevent your nails from staining. Follow with the black nail polish all over the nail and allow it to dry completely.
Next dot the makeup sponge with the metallic nail polish and lightly sponge on an oval shape (no need to be too precise here) where you want the center of your firework to be. For this particular manicure I decided to do fireworks on my thumb, middle and ring finger.
Now taking your dotting tool or toothpick, dip it into any color you want and start drawing dashes radiating out from the metallic center to start forming your fireworks. Feel free use multiple colors or different shades of the same color. Thinner dashes work better, I grabbed the wrong size tool to start with and just decided to do thicker ones all around to preserve continuity.
Coming in with a dotting tool (or toothpick) use the white to randomly dot the ends of some dashes as well as adding some white dashes, this creates the effect of the firework bursting.
Finally take your glitter nail polish and top it on any nails that don't have fireworks. Finish off with a top coat and there you are with your fun and glitzy nail art!
