Mani Monday #5: elf

At this point I'm really missing nail art, this monochromatic manicures are getting to me, however we will pursue! This week I am testing out elf nail polish! I know quite the dive away from my expensive nail polish but felt the need to start tossing in some cheaper options! This particular color I used came from one of their 14 polish cubes that run for $10, but basically it cost 71 cents. Their most expensive nail polish is $2, so bottom line, an incredibly affordable line.

Mani Monday is a weekly feature where I put a different brand of nail polish to a 7 day test. I chronicle my activities for each day with thoughts of things that could potentially attribute to chipping my polish. I use the same base and top coat each week, and this week applied one coat of elf's Mod Mauve. There will be a full list and links to all previous Mani Mondays at the end of this post.

Day One. Nothing too crazy, just typing as usual, polish is still looking good and intact. There was some hair washing too.
Day Two. I already see tiny chips forming on my ring finger on my right hand as well as the ring, middle and index fingers on my left hand.
Day Three. I woke up this morning to a chip on my middle finger on my right hand. There seem to be more tiny chips forming on my left middle and index finger as well as the index finger on my right hand.
Day Four. Typing and hair washing today. My nails continue to be chipping away, chips on my two middle fingers getting bigger, and obviously my right index finger has a huge chip. That happened as I was prying off the perforated packaging off some makeup.
Day Five. Chips ahoy. Left hand middle finger is HUGE, same with the one on my right index finger that got bigger and the one on my middle finger. There are pretty much little chips on all my nails, as well as it is looking quite raggedy near my cuticles. The only thing crazy I did today was eat at Boiling Crab, so lot's of de-shelling clams and mussels, but otherwise I noticed the polish chipping off at a steady rate throughout the day.
Day Six. I did absolutely nothing crazy today yet my nails continued to happily chip away. The right middle finger got significantly worse, as well as a large chip formed on my left ring finger. Sorry my nails are kind of grossly dirty, so look away from these pictures if that kind of stuff creeps you out.
Day Seven. I think I've figured out the mystery of the sleeping chipping nails! I have a woolly blanket that I like placing over my comforter and I think the chipped edges are snagging on the fibers and pulling away the polish as I sleep. Makes sense because I woke up with the chip on my left ring finger much worse. Day filled with typing, I was inspired and managed to bang out a lot of content for this blog so all these chips have gotten worse. So glad this is the last day of the week and I can finally take this horrendous polish off.

Final Thoughts. Do not bother wasting your money. This polish has received a F. First of the all the application was horrible, the polish was thick and very difficult to apply and the polish started chipping pretty much right away and halfway through the week there were huge chips everywhere. While you can get some good deals out of elf, I suggest skipping out on their nail polishes.

If you missed the previous weeks be sure to check them out here!
