Mani Monday #8: Ciate

I love this vampy plum color however this was not the easiest nail polish to apply, for $16 a pop I really expected better. It was kind of thick and streaky, the first coat looked awful and the brush dragged like crazy applying it but the second one fixed it to an acceptable degree. Also even with a top and base coat there was just not a smooth finish and my nails really aren't crazy ridged. If it wasn't clear I'm testing out Ciate this week which I was very hesitant on purchasing since it was so pricey but I found a good deal and went for it. I'm sad I destroyed the cute little bow but I think I can fix it.

Mani Monday is a weekly feature where I put a different brand of nail polish to a 7 day test. I chronicle my activities for each day with thoughts of things that could potentially attribute to chipping my polish. I use the same base and top coat each week, and this week applied two coats of Ciate's Cabaret. There will be a full list and links to all previous Mani Mondays at the end of this post.
Day One. Right away there's a tiny chip on my right index finger just simply from scratching an itch! Not having the best impression of Ciate so hopefully it fares better for the rest of the week. Otherwise there was a lot of typing and then hair washing in which a couple of my nails (right ring, right pinky and left index) came out looking a little chewed up.
Day Two. No change really, today was pretty lazy did some cleaning and some typing but my nails are still looking pretty much how they did yesterday.
Day Three. I woke up in the morning and noticed that my left ring finger has a slight chip forming as well as a slight chip on my right ring finger.
Day Four. Still looking good. Just a typical day of typing and then some hair washing. Despite the initial drama this polish is starting to prove itself.
Day Five. Really didn't do much today. Did a lot of errands and organizing (I'm constantly cleaning I know but everyday I wake up with a hundred new ideas of how to arrange and store things), so far the polish is looking good! There's a tiny tiny side chip on my right middle finger but that's about it.
Day Six. I literally went in to scratch an itch and ended up chipping my middle right finger massively, and then it snagged against a woolly blanket and flaked off even more.
Day Seven. This time as I was peeling off those sticky tags off some lip glosses I managed to destroy my right index finger.

Final Thoughts. Despite the poor application at the beginning I really wanted to like this polish and just found I couldn't. The polish did stay glossy and shiny all week which is a definite plus but near the end of the week seeing how badly it chipped from just every day activities was a little discouraging. I'm giving Ciate a B-, it didn't completely fail in my eyes however I just expected a more hardy formulation as well as a smoother application for the price.

If you missed the previous weeks be sure to check them out here!
