Unboxing Match! February 2014 Ipsy vs. Birchbox

I am so excited and surprised! Birchbox decided against its sneaky trip around California this time and actually came on time!! Conveniently, Ipsy and Birchbox actually arrived within a day of each other, so that alone has made me a happy camper this month. I was so good and determined this month and did NOT peek online so here is my genuine and enthusiastic reaction review of my treats!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with these services, Ipsy and Birchbox are two beauty subscription boxes that come monthly. Both of these cost $10 a month and each arrive with 5-6 different goodies ranging from sad little foil packets to full size products!

Initial Reaction: Dodged a bullet there and DIDN'T any eye shadows..I have more than I know what to do with! And nail polish too from Zoya, win! Also I'm liking this plain pink back that is pretty roomy with the adorable pink leopard print on the lining.
1. $9 Zoya Nail Polish in Odette is a full sized product. Of course I grabbed the nail polish first and I'm so excited it's this beautiful pinky purple which is clearly my favorite shade of nail polish.
2. $3 City Color Be Matte Blush in Fresh Melon is a full sized product. Even though I have quite a blush collection though I was still happy to see this guy in my bag. I think I own one matte blush so I'm excited to have another one to add to my collection.
3. $18 Eyetini Cordial Cream Shadow + Base In One in Spiced Rum is a full sized product. This alcohol infused makeup line intrigues me so I'm excited to try it out. The color isn't something I would have picked up on my own but I'll make it work.
4. $5 NuMe Intense Renewal Mask is a sample sized product. Everyone talks about NuMe (since it seems like they sponsor every single YouTube guru out there) so I'm excited to try this out, also because I'm a big fan of hair masks and seeing as my favorite is $45(!!!!!!) I'm always on the hunt for a cheaper alternative.
5. $8 POP Beauty Plump Pout Mini in Peony Petal is a mini sized product. I wasn't too impressed with the lip crayon I've gotten before since it wasn't great quality and also a shocking coral, but I'm interested in trying out the gloss. I'm glad I got this instead of the violently electric pink that was the other option.
Approximate Value: $43.00

Initial Reaction: This box feels so light, and yup disappointed when I opened it up. How does any of this count as deluxe?? These seem to be sample sizes of samples to me..
1. $3 Ruby Wing Color Changing Nail Polish in Kitten Heels is a mini size. I was excited until I realized it's a hot fuchsia that turns into a red in the sun...what are we, middle schoolers?!
2. $6 Beauty Protector Protect & Oil is a sample size. Well I don't use hair oils, but at least I'm lucky and this didn't arrive shattered like a a lot of people experienced, so I guess I'm lucky.
3. $1 Juicy Couture, Couture La La Malibu Perfume is a sample size. I HATE perfume samples in these things, I'm very particular about scents so this is always a waste for me. However this scent isn't too bad, maybe one day I'll think of it and wear it.
4. $8 dr brandt Pores No More Pores Refiner is technically a full sized product because this comes in a kit. These pore crushers sure are popular lately, this may be the only thing I'm kind of excited for but I'm starting to feel that all these things are oily hoaxes, but we'll see.
5. $0.66 Oral Care Effervescent Breath Crystals with IsoVoxy is a sample size. Okay I honestly found this insulting (but not really because how would they know me?) but seriously why would I ever want something like this?? This is just as bad as the teeth wipes I've gotten before. I thought this was tea and got excited for a minute and then crushed the next when I realized it was this.
Approximate Value: $18.66

Do I even need to state it? Ipsy was the CLEAR winner this month, does Birchbox know I signed up for the yearly subscription and therefore I'm trapped for 11 more months so therefore they don't feel obligated to send me stuff I want? Who knows, but I'm extremely disappointed in Birchbox this month, honestly Ipsy wasn't that fantastic either but it was definitely the lesser of the two evils and the Zoya nail polish alone made it for me.

What did you get this month in your subscription services?
