Mani Monday #12: Kardashian Beauty

I didn't want to like this so much just because it's Kardashian, but this nail polish was amazing to apply! I absolutely adore the flat, wide brush that delivers an even and dry coat. I know that dry is a weird word to describe nail polish (and sounds anything but desirable) but imagine those really thick gloopy nail polishes that are always uneven no matter what you do, and then imagine the opposite where one swipe delivers the thinnest coat possible that is also incredibly opaque, smooth and fast drying, that's how I imagine a "dry" nail polish to be. This nail polish retails for about $6 and I found mine at Ulta, but I believe you can find this at Walmart too.

Mani Monday is a weekly feature where I put a different brand of nail polish to a 7 day test. I chronicle my activities for each day with thoughts of things that could potentially attribute to chipping my polish. I use the same base and top coat each week, and this week applied one coat of Kardashian Beauty's Blaze. There will be a full list and links to all previous Mani Mondays at the end of this post.

Another month with some progress made on Project Pan REMIX! I'm still working out exactly how I want to run this show so we'll see if the format changes. The concept of Project Pan REMIX is that I will have five products (left side) that I am treating like a traditional Project Pan (full-time), using it until it's gone and reporting on the progress every month, and then five products (right side) that I will be using that are just forgotten products and I want to incorporate more into my daily routine (think of this as part time Project Pan). Then I will have one product (center) that I will swap in on a weekly basis as a rotating "use me more" type of thing and this month I'm going to work through my perfume samples!  The format of reporting progress will be a little different from what I've been doing, but I will explain more and it will be clear once I introduce the products, so let's begin!

March Madness: Week #4

I can't believe I"m already at the final week of this March Madness challenge. I am very proud of myself for putting on eye shadow everyday (except one day) and definitely proving to myself that this is something I can manage to do quickly in the morning. Perhaps I will start getting a little more fancy on a daily basis! This BH San Francisco palette is absolutely my least favorite in my collection. There is just no consistency in quality so we will see how this week will fare.

Did I Haul It? Wishlist Check-In Haul + Swatches!

Here I am with my update on how I did on my Spring Wishlist! With a few Sephora gift cards and various points to redeem I was able to make a lot of wishes into reality! I also realized I need to stop putting up wishlists because I have a weird thing with list where I like to feel accomplished by checking things ff and I'm finding that having a product wishlist out there really encourages some binge shopping. So this is the last you'll see of Wishlist/Wishlist Haul type of posts because this is not a healthy habit for my wallet or storage space! Nonetheless I picked up a lot of goodies that I'm excited to share with you all!

What's in my Trash?! Empties #4

These empties are coming fast and furious now. I completely dominated at finishing up shower stuff this month as well as a lot of samples from subscription boxes. Surprisingly a few makeup items too which I normally am so slow at using up. At this point I have a handful of balms that are reaching the end of their lives so expect the April update to be exploding with those. So let's just get into what I have this month!

Mani Monday #11: Julep

I'm seriously embarrassed with the way this looks, it's my own fault for being so determined to use a yellow which I just never had luck with no matter the brand. I redid my nails about three times and finally just gave up. The right hand looks decent but the left is just a hot mess and I apologize for all the closeups on it. This nail polish applied pretty badly, it was thick and streaky (yup, all at the same time) and then it dried to a gel consistency which I'm never a fan of. I want my nails sleek and hard as rock when I'm done with them. This week I am testing out Julep nail polish, I love the sleek and space saving bottles they come in and it makes me want to just buy a bunch of them except they cost $14!! These can be found at Sephora and also are known for their Julep Maven boxes which is a box of nail polish every month! I'm considering signing up for this for maybe three months because there are a lot of coupons out there where you can get your first box for $1, but first I need to clean out my nail polish collection.

UnBoxing Match! March 2014 Ipsy vs. Birchbox

I was so surprised (and thrilled) that these both shipped on the same day!! Getting here, as usual Ipsy was much faster, Birchbox decided to take its usual lap around the country and come in a full week later. I unintentionally peeked this month for Ipsy, I clicked into the Glam Room not knowing it was already updated so I already know what I'm getting and was half disappointed, more into that later. Fingers crossed the Birchbox redeems itself this month, normally it doesn't let me down but the past two months have been in a slump.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with these services, Ipsy and Birchbox are two beauty subscription boxes that come monthly. Both of these cost $10 a month and each arrive with 4-6 different goodies ranging from sad little foil packets to full size products! I would say that typically Birchbox consistently delivers high-end skincare and hair care products with a sprinkling of makeup while Ipsy goes more for the mid-range items and is normally a lot of makeup items.

March Madness: Week #3

If I thought the first two weeks were hard to photograph, they are nothing compared to this! I've forgotten how ridiculously light these eyeshadows are. They essentially just kind of tint my lids with shimmer. I will attempt to describe these as well as I can because I have a feeling the pictures are going to be pretty useless!

Know Your Face: Oily/Combination Skin

The sad truth when it comes to oily skin is that it is genetically determined by hormonal change in your body, there's really no escaping it if it's coded in your DNA.  The hormone responsible for oily skin are called androgens. When it comes to oily skin the large pores that produce an excess of oil, from overly stimulated androgens, is the culprit in all the problems.

Know Your Face: Dry Skin

When it comes to skin care, a lot of people are unaware that different kinds of skin require different methods and products to provide maximal care. I myself fell victim to this problem and have since changed up skin care routine in order to better treat the quirks of my skin. I thought it would be helpful to do a two-part feature on skin types offering some insight of what internal biology as well as external factors cause these two extremes and provide some tips and product suggestions that your skin will love you for. Today we are starting with dry skin!

Personally I am an oily skin girl and I'll admit sometimes I envy those with dry skin simply because they do not need to combat a constant oil field all day long. However after I did my research into the nitty gritty of dry skin, it definitely isn't as low maintenance (and painless!) that I believed it to be.

Mani Monday #10: Zoya

This was not a particulary easy polish to apply, the brush dragged quite a bit, so I settled with one thick coat that just covered everything and made it work, sort of. This week's Zoya retails for $9 and is a favorite for many because it is 5 free and fairly affordable. I'm so thankful Ipsy sent me a full sized bottle last month because I was really puzzling over where to pick it up. You can buy it off their website and apparently in Ulta stores but not online. This nice dusty purple is such a me color and despite the rocky application, it dried quickly and quite nicely.

Hair Care Picks & Tips

Nothing beats some soft and shiny hair. With winter ending and spring starting to peek through (thought here in California winter never happened...) it is time to wash away that dry, dull hair that usually accompanies the colder months and make way for some healthy locks to flaunt in the sunshine. Today I would like to share some of my favorite products and tips to taking care of your hair and turning it into the envy of everyone around you.

March Madness: Week #2

After a week of neutrals I am excited to have a palette this week with some fun pops of color. Blues are normally not shades that I go for, but they are quite complimentary with brown eyes so it will be a great experience playing with the colors. This Malibu palette from BH Cosmetics is definitely my favorite out of the trio of California palettes, especially for the face powders in the middle.

Spring 2014 Nail Polish Trends

Another season and another palette of colors to watch out for. This year designers did not seem to stick with the traditional soft pastels but instead pulled out bold accent colors that you would expect to find in the fall. While not everyone is keen on running out and buying accessories and clothing to match the hot colors of a season, nail polish is a great (and inexpensive) way to wear the trendy colors of the time. Today I've done my research and came out with the top 10 most used colors in Spring 2014 designs and selected some nail polishes from my collection that I believe exemplify the tones well.

Review: Garnier Clean + Nourishing Cleansing Oil

For the longest time I have always used wipes as my preferred method of taking off my makeup for the sheer convenience and ease of it. However one day it really hit me how the scrubbing motion was not only pulling at my skin and irritating my skin into a red fury, but I was yanking out a good amount of my eye lashes that I try so hard to grow out. I tried out a ton of different creams and jelly based products but just wasn't satisfied with them because I was on the hunt for a product that could effectively break down my makeup without a lot of harsh scrubbing, and then also not leave behind anytime of film or residue.

Mani Monday #9: China Glaze

I'm in love with this beautiful creamy peach, I could have gotten away with one coat but I wasn't being too careful. If this is the quality of all China Glaze polishes, I'm running to the store ASAP! I broke my streak of horrendously monstrous manicure jobs and did just a slightly frightening look this week, I go through phases where I can do immaculate paint jobs, but typically I'm in the "a five-year old colored in my nails" category. This polish was so creamy and lovely though it definitely deserves a lot of credit in what I deem socially acceptable nails this week.

Beauty Myths: DeBunked! #3

In our second installment of beauty myths we explore tales about nail polishes and hair growth!

Wearing nail polish turns your nails yellow. This is both true and false. Nails are porous and absorb the pigments in polishes very well. This is a permanent problem though as the staining will not spread, to counteract this problem put down a clear base coat before applying nail polish, especially those darker colors.

March Madness: Week #1

This first week is going to be really boring. I'm using Nude Tude which I've already reviewed before and just not pleased with how not pigmented it is (maybe my skin is just too tan?) so I'll be trying to insert some images of what I came up with but I just don't think they will photograph at all. I'm apologizing now, I didn't really get the hang of how exactly to photograph my eye looks until the end of the week, but at least the rest of the month will be excellent!

Review: elf Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick

It's taken me quite awhile to get to this review, I wanted to take a lot of time testing out the product and then I just kept forgetting to write this up, so better late than never here it is! I love balm stains. If it wasn't obvious before I'm saying it now. I'm still not quite skilled enough for draw on those flawless lips with a traditional lipstick and my lips are always quite chapped, so I love turning to those chubby sticks packed with color and moisturizing power that come with the added bonus of being a long lasting stain. I bought this totally thinking it as a normal balm stain like all the other ones out there and for the price I thought I would give it a shot. Definitely not what I was expecting at all but it ended up being something very different that I fell in love with. This is the elf Essential Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick that retails for $2 on their website or in Target (which is where I picked mine up). It comes in 8 colors mostly nudes and light pinks but there are two darker red/mauvey shades, and this particular one I picked up is the darkest one which is a red called Movie Star. elf states that this is a tinted lip color that is suppose to glide on like a lipstick but look like a gloss, with nourishing ingredients that will condition and moisturize lips.

February UNfavorites & Face Wash Challenge Check-In!

Project Pan really has open up a whole world of hate dislike for me this month. Bear with me as I go through a list of products that really rivals my favorites for once.

February 2014 Favorites

Taking a break from Mani Monday this week to bring you my favorites! My nails thank you for understanding the abuse they are enduring and are very grateful for this mini vacation. This month I did not hold back on my favorite products (you'll understand a little bit better tomorrow as to why). There are a lot of new favorites, as well as rediscovering some oldies but goodies that deserved a moment in the lime light. My shopping has been uncontrollable lately (cash back and free gift cards just get me everytime) and I'm putting an end to that with a spending fast very very soon. I might even do a massive post at the end of a month documenting all my spending, maybe if I put it out there on the internet it will force myself to be more accountable, and the shock factor would really help. Anyways I digress, back to the products that I just fell head over heels in love with this past month.
