February 2014 Favorites

Taking a break from Mani Monday this week to bring you my favorites! My nails thank you for understanding the abuse they are enduring and are very grateful for this mini vacation. This month I did not hold back on my favorite products (you'll understand a little bit better tomorrow as to why). There are a lot of new favorites, as well as rediscovering some oldies but goodies that deserved a moment in the lime light. My shopping has been uncontrollable lately (cash back and free gift cards just get me everytime) and I'm putting an end to that with a spending fast very very soon. I might even do a massive post at the end of a month documenting all my spending, maybe if I put it out there on the internet it will force myself to be more accountable, and the shock factor would really help. Anyways I digress, back to the products that I just fell head over heels in love with this past month.

  • theBalm Hot Mama Blush. Let's continue with my rose gold bronze obsession. This blush is a beautiful pinky-peach with a lot of gold shimmer in it. Absolutely no highlighter needed with this! I also just love the packaging for theBalm's blushes, so flat and fuss free makes storing (or travelling) with it so easy! Also the magnetic lock helps save my manicures.
  • Anastasia Brow Wiz in Brunette. I really didn't understand all the hype with this stuff, but now that I own it I'm obsessed. The super skinny tip really makes all the difference to naturally fill in brows with great control and precision. The spoolie isn't my favorite, I feel like it's a little flimsy, but otherwise I don't think I'll ever do my brows with anything else again.
  • Coconut Oil. I don't feel like this has ever been in my favorites before so it's time to ravish this guy with some compliments. I specifically adore the Trader Joe's brand, I feel like some other ones are overly churned and pressed that it's hard to believe it is coconut. This is my absolute favorite after shower moisturizer. Without even toweling off I just slather generous globs of this stuff all over. I really notice a difference in my legs and it also softens the sparse leg hairs I have to make them seemingly disappear against my skin. Also a great makeup remover whenever I run out.
  • Dr. Rescue Baby Lips in Too Cool. I'm just the opposite of everyone, I hate the original Baby Lips but I love the Dr. Rescue line of them, only the one in Too Cool though. This one is just a balm, no color no nothing, and it moisturizes my lips so nicely that I think my trusty Chapstick is finally getting replaced.
  • NYX Baked Blush in Wanderlust. I'll admit I originally bought this for the name but I ended up lovely the color. It's a very subtle and natural peachy flush with a soft shimmer to it. The cute little bow packaging is to die for too.
  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm. After a million hits and misses, I have finally found my perfect nude shade and it is this guy. I'll admit these are a little drying on the lips but I'm hooked on how it feels when you apply it. I can't really describe it but it's almost like rubbing really expensive velvet against your lips and the color is perfectly matte.
  • Swissco Precision Beauty Sponge. I picked one of these up from Marshall's after doing some research with a lot of people comparing this brand to the original beauty blenders, I'm aware I got the wrong one (the thicker band ones are coming to me from Hautelook in the mail!) but I actually really love these sponges. It applies and blends my foundation so easily and I'm liking it way better than buffing it on with a brush. Official beauty sponge addict now.
  • Garnier Cleansing Oil. I know this is targeted towards dry skin but after hearing a lot of talk about cleansing oils I was really interested in trying an affordable option so I was thrilled to find this. This stuff is SO amazing, it breaks down and melts away every drop of makeup on my face (yes even my ten million coats of waterproof mascara) and leaves my skin feeling so soft and clean. Disclaimer I do follow up with an additional cleanser (look at the next item below) and I have heard of people complaining that it leaves behind a light film, but since this is the first step in my skincare I never notice it and so far it hasn't been breaking my skin out.
  • Michael Todd Fruit Enzyme Scrub. I love this. It smells like a mix between orange soda and an orange creamsicle and does a great job cleaning all the gunk out of my pores. I don't know how I've been living before discovering this stuff because my face has never ever EVER felt this clean before.
  • Aveeno Clear Complexion. I rediscovered this moisturizer this month and now it has been added back into my skincare routine. It's so thick and moisturizing and most importantly helps to even out skin tone.
  • Covergirl Flamed Out Mascara. Clump Crusher gets all the love from me it is time to feature my favorite volumizing mascara. This gives me such dark and thick looking lashes I love it. I don't agree that it is a curling formula but definitely packs a huge punch of volume.
  • Mally Everclear Poreless Face Defender. This stuff is truly a miracle. I already have a full on review about it here so I won't rant on, just know that I can't live without it now.
  • China Glaze BFF. This color was limited edition and I didn't even realize it was something I needed in my life until I saw some swatches on it. Seriously go google image this right now, it's the most gorgeous light rose pink with a true rainbow holographic effect. It looks so natural on my nails and then you get it into the sunlight and it's like bam, rainbow. If you ever manage to see this in stores definitely pick it up, worth every penny! Check out my swatches below, I photographed it with and without flash so you can see the true color as well as the rainbow effect.
  • Julep Essential Cuticle Oil. In an effort to take care of hands/nails better I've dug this out of makeup storage and have started applying it every night all over my cuticles and anywhere my skin is dry or cracking around my finger tips. This has made a huge difference, my finger tips have been so dry and damaged from the constant nail polish and acetone assault (as well as this dry winter) that they have actually hurt a few times. Now my fingers are on the mend and feeling oh so soft and happier.
  • Soap & Glory Hand Food. I'll admit I didn't like this at first but it has turned into my favorite nighttime hand cream. After my cuticle oil has had some time to dry I just slather this all over my hands. This has really helped with the painful dry cracking I've been experiencing this winter and there's a light rose scent which is very pleasant.

What are some of your favorites this month?
