Review: Dupe? elf St. Lucia vs. NARS Orgasm/Laguna

Can I ramble for a bit? I must admit that I had wanted to do this for ages, I got both of these a few months ago but for some reason this is just one of those that just kept getting pushed back in favor of other posts. Finally I just sat myself down and was like just do it. Here comes the age old question of does a $3 dupe really exist for a $40 duo?? This has been long debated for years but I really wanted to try it out myself so I went out and picked up both the elf Blusher/Bronzer duo in St. Lucia as well as the NARS Orgasm and Laguna duo. Right away you can see the packaging is basically the same, as well as the size and amount of product. Just looking at them side to side there is a noticeable difference between the shades.

I must say that the bronzers look quite similar in the pan but swatched out they are VERY different. The elf bronzer is a rich chocolate brown, while the NARS Laguna is more of a taupe with a more noticeable shimmer to it. Looking through my collection I found that theBalm's Bahama Mama was more of a dupe for Laguna than the bronzer found in the elf duo.
The blush is also subtly different from each other. The elf is more of a baby pink with a slight golden shimmer to it while the NARS Orgasm is a distinctly rose gold. The pink is a much deeper rosier shade with a very obvious gold sheen to it. Looking through my collection for dupes I actually found quite a few (what can I say, I'm a sucker for rose gold) but coincidentally it was another theBalm product that I picked to be the closest dupe. What has to be one of my all-time favorite blushes, Hot Mama was nearly a dead ringer for Orgasm.
The last thing that can be said about these two products is the obvious difference in quality. Initially they swatch with about the same consistency, the elf was a little powdery, but NARS performs better in leaps and bounds in all day wear. Elf slowly fades away throughout the day on my oily skin, but NARS firmly stays put.

My final thoughts? I don't believe they are exact dupes for each other, there's a major difference in both quality and shades. That being said they are both fantastic products as themselves.
