Songs of Summer

In my opinion, nothing beats driving with the windows down blasting music on a warm summer day. It's the one time I'm willing to risk my hair going crazy because the act of doing it is so inevitably summer. As usual each summer I carefully hunt down and curate the perfect soundtrack for these drives and I think this year I've really put together a winner. I'm not going to share the full list because that has something like 100 songs on it, instead I have put together a quick list of my top 10 that I have just been loving and putting on repeat. Sorry if my "explanations" all sound the same, I have a hard time with it, you can't really explain music you need to just listen to it and see if it speaks to you. I literally have a playlist for every situation because nothing gets me through the good and the bad times quite like music can. I'm not going to claim that these are all fun and happy songs but I think it's always interesting to take a look into someone's music choice because it definitely gives you a hint of things they are going through, so if you can learn something about me! Note: these songs are in no particular order!

Song: Heartbreak Dream
By: Betty Who
Favorite Lyric: "It's holding hands, It's makin' plans that we're never keeping, It's silent drivin', It's always finding reasons to sleep in"
This song gives me images of coast side living, driving down the highway next to the ocean. It really makes me miss it and gives me the urge to move back.

Song: Summer
By: Calvin Harris
Favorite Lyric: "When I met you in the summer, To my heartbeat sound, We fell in love, As the leaves turned brown"
How can I not include a song entitled Summer, especially when it is by Calvin Harris? Everything about this song is just so right.

Song: La Da Dee
By: Cody Simpson
Favorite Lyric:
This is one of those really upbeat songs that are fun to sing along to. It's an oldie, but definitely a goodie.

Song: Rather Be
By: Clean Bandit
Favorite Lyric: "With every step we take, Kyoto to The Bay, Strolling so casually"
So. darn. catchy.

Song: Wasted
By: Tiesto
Favorite Lyric: "You are a catch 22, Either way I miss out, All of the grief I'd give you, Is energy I can live without, But I could stand you one more night"
Again, so fun to sing along too and have general dance parties at stop lights. This is my favorite to put on repeat when I'm making the trek up into the city.

Song: Latch
By: Disclosure
Favorite Lyric: "You lift my heart up when the rest of me is down, You, you enchant me even when you're not around"
Something I wish the radio would stop playing because I never want to be sick of it!

Song: Boom Clap
By: Charli XCX
Favorite Lyric: "No silver or no gold, Could dress me up so good, You're the glitter in the darkness of my world"
This reminds me that I still need to watch The Fault in Our Stars, but this is such a nice song.

Song: Beautiful Times
By: Owl City
Favorite Lyric: "This fight of my life is so hard, so hard, so hard, But I'm gonna survive, Oh, oh, these are beautiful times"
This one is kind of random it was less about the actual song but more about the teaser site that came out when Owl City did an early release of this. If anyone else saw it please comment below, but the ocean and the lighthouse, I loved it! Owl City in general is great driving music, the lyrics paint the most lovely pictures.

Song: She Looks So Perfect
By: 5 Seconds to Summer
Favorite Lyric: "'Cause this deadbeat town's only here just to keep us down, While I was out, I found myself alone just thinking, If I showed up with a plane ticket, And a shiny diamond ring with your name on it, Would you wanna run away too?, 'Cause all I really want is you"
I wasn't sure whether I wanted to put this on the list or not because it's so overplayed, but I just LOVE singing along so I thought it still deserved a spot.

Song: Be Okay
By: Oh Honey
Favorite Lyric: "I'm wide awake, so what's the point of dreaming when your life is great?, Celebrate the feeling, celebrate the feeling."
Just one of those songs that makes me so happy to listen to.

What are your top songs of summer?
