Review: Birchbox Limited Edition CEW Boxes

I wait for these eagerly every year, because they are affordable limited edition boxes from Birchbox! Last year I made the mistake of only getting the Prestige box so this year I was sure to pick up both. To be honest I wasn't overly excited for either box but there was enough items in each box and for the price for me to be interested in them! These boxes are products from the Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Insiders' Choice Beauty Awards, either finalists or winners, basically the Oscars of makeup! It's a mix of full size and deluxe sample sizes, and the to boxes are split but highend and drugstore items. Let's get right into the unboxing and review of these two limited edition boxes. I apologize ahead of time for the quality of pictures, I was struggling with that glare massively.
First up is the Limited Edition 2014 Mass Appeal Box! I love these boxes this year, they are made of thicker material and much bigger, these I will definitely save to store items in! This one is a pretty ocean blue and sold for $15. Opening it right away it was packed with fun white squiggles and four out of the six items were full sized!
This first item is a travel size of Dove Go Fresh Restore Body Wash. I know that usually in Birchbox unboxings I get very irritated over body washes, but Dove is a brand that I know and love so this will happily get used up and I just know I will love it.
The other non full sized product is the TRESemme Keratin Smooth Keratin Infusing Serum, but it is a very generous travel size. This is not something I will use, I have naturally stick straight hair that I take care of obsessively so it's pretty much perfectly smooth and soft without the use of product. However I know that my mom will absolutely love this so it will be going to go a good home!
I've admired these adorable little tubs before so I am thrilled to finally have my own Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips! This will be perfect to leave at work for just a slight touch of color and guarantee rush of moisture. I'm such a sucker for adorable little containers.
This full sized Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 has to be what I'm most excited for! I discovered Simple through Birchbox and I'm really in love with it now. I'm a little wary because SPF usually doesn't mix with my greasy face but I'm still going to give this a shot because I have a feeling this may be a happy exception.
I haven't used Burt's Bees in years and didn't even realize they had more than chapsticks now but I am looking forward to trying out this Burt's Bees 100% Natural Lip Gloss in Spring Splendor. The color is something I could wear daily and if it's anything like their other products it will be nice and hydrating.
After hearing so many mixed reviews on the L'OrĂ©al Paris Voluminous Butterfly Mascara I never picked up my own tube so I'm happy I get the chance to try it out for myself. This will take awhile though because I have quite a lot of mascara to work through first.
Next up is the Limited Edition 2014 Prestige Headliners Box which sold for $18 and contained one full sized, four deluxe sized samples and two bonus extras. I kind of had mixed feelings about this box and almost didn't get it, but I was convinced by two items that I was interested in trying and decided to just go for it.
This 100% Pure Creamy Nail Polish is one of those items I was willing to get the box for and I'm glad I did! The color I got, Jam, is totally my kind of shade! This company intrigues me, everything is vegan and colored with fruit pigment!
The other item that convinced me to pick up this box is this Josie Maran Cosmetics 100% Pure Argan Oil Light. I've been really into oils lately, cleansing oils and others as serums and Argan oil is one type that I've never tried before. Josie Maran as a brand too is also something I've wanted to try out, so this item is a win.
I've heard great things about this philosophy miracle worker overnight so I'm excited to try this too! At first I definitely thought this was a hair care product so finding out it wasn't I was thrilled. It's very hit or miss wen it comes to philosophy products for me (purity cleanser, love it, hope in a jar, hate it) so I'm interested to see how this works out.
This one will be another useful one but not something I'm extra excited for just because of the size of the sample, but it's the COOLA Environmental Repair Plus Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion. Being someone who doesn't believe in SPF you can imagine that after-sun lotions come in handy for my burned skin, I just wish it was a bigger size because this won't even begin to cover it.
The Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Creme is the item I am least excited about. This is just something I would never use, but again I can find it a good home with my mom!
The last two items were the bonus extras which is a mirror and toe separators. For something who is so nail polish obsessed it's really surprising that I don't own any separators, and of course you can never have enough mirrors!

Overall I wasn't too excited when I ordered the boxes, but once I actually received them and got the chance to see and test out all the products I'm glad I picked them up! As a bonus I got to save $5 by ordering both, so they came out to be only $28! Anyone else pick up the CEW boxes? What did you think?

  1. I went back and forth on these and ultimately did not buy them. There were too many products I wasn't interested in.
