Review: Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner

Today I'm back with another one of those products that I had passed over a a gimmick but eventually found myself coming back to and needing to try for myself. Before we start I need to make it clear that I'm aware that there is no magic potion that will make pores disappear, however with that being said, it is possible to shrink the size slightly by finding products that will truly deep clean your pores. What I have here today is Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner which retails for $18 for a 6.4oz bottle. This is a really generous size and very budget friendly. This toner is a lightly hydrating formula that claims to restore skins' balance and minimize pores with the added bonus of helping to control oily and combination skin. This potent combination of antioxidants, anti-irritants, and cell-communication ingredients helps to restore normal function to your skin with the ability to balance oil and reduce redness by soothing dry and flaky areas. It also helps to remove the last traces of makeup and it is alcohol, fragrance and colorant free!

As toners go, this one is sublime. Where does this go into my skincare routine? After I take my makeup off for the day with a cleansing oil, I wash my face twice, once with a gel or cream wash and then followed by a gentle daily exfoliant, I will pat dry and then apply this toner with a cotton pad. Focusing mostly on my cheeks and nose where my pores are the largest but going for a final sweep all over, I am always surprised (and disgusted) by the traces of makeup that this stuff is still able to pick up. The fact that this product is alcohol free means that I can immediately follow up with a serum or moisturizer and not worry about the alcohol breaking up the ingredients. Plus it's always good to go with alcohol free toners because those are always very drying and harsh on the skin.

Just from the cotton pad alone I can tell that this toner does a great job cleaning out all the gunk even after I believe my face is already squeaky clean. This stuff is a clear liquid and the bottle comes with a good spout that is easy to control the amount of product you deposit out. It takes a nice firm shake to get some liquid out so you will never accidentally pour out too much and waste it.

So I have very oily skin with enlarged pores and I am acne prone, really just the holy triangle of desirable skin traits right? I'm kidding don't worry. That being said, I will never be without this toner again. I have been using it for a little over a month now and I have noticed an improvement in both my pores and my oiliness. While it is not a magic cure for both, it has really helped to deep clean my pores and push all the bad out onto the surface. It's also great because it doesn't irritate my eye, I get this stuff very close to my eye (definitely in it more than once) and I have had no problem, seeing as I have slightly sensitive contact lens (I really just got all the good genes here!) wearing eyes this bodes well for how gentle and safe the ingredients are.

After using this toner my skin feels fresh and hydrated and it just soaks up anything else I layer on it afterwards. This toner really primes my skin for the rest of my skincare routine and has resulted in softer more moisturized skin. Reading a lot of reviews online people claim that they don't really notice a difference until they stopped using it, but with my experience I've noticed a difference using it and I don't think I will ever give it a chance to notice the difference by stopping.

If you're looking for a fairly affordable toner that does a great job with oily skin, definitely consider picking this one up!

  1. I've heard good things about this brand and have been curious to try it. This toner wouldn't work for me since I have dry skin but it sounds like it could work well for my husband. Thanks for the review!

    1. After this toner I immediately went and ordered a few more items from the site! I've always heard about it too and never realized it was so reasonably priced and so far I'm pleased with the quality!
