24 on 24 (on the 24th)

Today is my golden birthday! I'm turning 24 on the 24th! Normally I dread birthdays, I can say that my past six or so have always ended in tears (and not the I'm so drunk kind) so usually I just kind of try to close my eyes through the day and hope that it will pass by an unremarkable event. This year really isn't that different, today I'm hoping for no surprises and just a quiet dinner out with family, but that hasn't stopped me with reflecting over this past year. The journey from 23 to 24 was particularly rough with only one year that could possibly compete with it being the worst. 24 years isn't a lot of life experience, but in comparison to what has happened so far, this year has been pretty bad. But the bumps didn't come without lessons so today on my 24th birthday I am here to break down this past year in both achievements and silly facts about me.

1. I started this blog. Of course this has to the number one on any list. Starting this blog really hasn't been one of the best decisions I ever made and it keeps me so grounded and enthusiastic about something important.

2. I own over 200 bottles of nail polishes. I have a serious problem with walking into a store and not coming out with a bottle or two. I have used every single one of those polishes at least once and I change out my nail polish 2-3 times a week!

3. I learned the importance of brows. I was late in the game for brows, but now I am obsessed with them and can't leave the house without perfectly penciled in brows. Even a quick run into the grocery store I'll leave the rest of my face alone (and wear pajamas) but my brows MUST be done.

4. I have a not so secret dinosaur obsession. And before your ask my favorite dinosaur is Spinosaurus.

5. I conquered my fear of lipstick. For the longest time I've thought it was the silliest makeup product, but then I purchased Jordana Twist & Shine Balm Stain in Honey Love and my whole world changed. Now I have an entire lipstick holder filled (and overflowing), a jar full of chubby stick products, and a drawer full of glosses. I take obsessions very seriously.

7. I discovered the magic of quinoa, cauliflower, and juicing. This year I really expanded the foods I eat and I'm proud of my healthier and more balanced diet.

8. I have a carefully curated skincare routine that is my pride and joy.

9. I established myself back into football fan-dom. I grew up watching the Niners every Sunday and sort of fell out of that in high school and college (my school didn't have a football team) so this year I rekindled my love for the game and I'm happy to have solid Sunday plans for the next few months.

10. My favorite color is yellow followed by mint green. Yellow is such a bright and happy color while mint green composes about 90% of my wardrobe and accessories.
11. I did a complete closet overhaul and updated my wardrobe. I attended a few alumni events this past year with the local chapter of my sorority and that's when I really took note of my wardrobe. I was getting mistaken for active members and that was an indication that it was time to change it up. I eliminated 50% of my closet and replaced them with just a few pieces that are timeless, good quality, and age appropriate. I know I'm still young, but it's never too early to start building that classic closet!

12. I don't drink coffee but make a special exception for the Black Forest Ice Blended from Coffee Bean and Mocha Cookie Crumble from Starbucks. I used to drink coffee through college but then I discovered on most days I don't need the caffeine kick to keep me functioning so I stopped in fear of staining my teeth. Those two drinks though is more like dessert to me so I don't think they even count as coffee!

13. I secured a job I love with people I enjoy being around. This was huge for me. I won't even begin with the struggle that graduating from college and my journey to this point was for me but this was definitely a huge achievement for this year and I'm looking forward to what the next year will bring.

14. Whenever I have food cravings it is always for something salty or savory, never sweet. Most people want cookies and ice cream meanwhile I'm here ready to kill for some french fries or a bowl of noodles. I think this is more dangerous then having a sweet tooth sometimes because I'm craving full on meals at 2am!
15. I crossed Iceland off my travel check list. I am lucky enough to have parents who love traveling so I had a passport as a baby and got to visit a lot of places. Now that I no longer have the luxury of summer vacations and spring breaks, it's harder for me to travel with them. Back in April I managed to plan an Iceland trip with one of my friends and we had a blast for a week exploring somewhere new. I want to make it a goal to have one foreign country trip every year!

16. I can't fall asleep without watching something first. Every night I need to put something on Netflix for me to fall asleep to. It's gotten to a point where it is so firmly in my nighttime routine that I can't sleep at all without watching something first.
17. I realized that a big city is nice to visit but not for living. I've always wanted to live in a big city for as long as I can remember but going to the two cities that are near me every weekend has really made me realize I wouldn't want to deal with all the traffic and hassle that comes with it.

18. Clothes shopping is one of my least favorite activities. The amount of people and pawing through racks just overwhelms me. I never know what I'm looking for and I just hate trying on clothes. This is probably why my closet hasn't changed much.

19. I found that music really does heal the soul. This is something I've always known but the ups and downs of this year has urged me to curate the perfect soundtrack to my life. Maybe one day I will share that here!

20. I have trouble watching a foreign film because the accents make me think that the actors are speaking in a different language so I have a hard time keeping up. I have no clue why, I can't even watch British Comedies without the same level of confusion!

21. I set in motion a crazy obsession for all things makeup and beauty. I blame you YouTube and Birchbox! I started watching videos and then started up my Birchbox subscription and then I just became hooked. This has been a fun year full of new products and routines and a seriously slim wallet.
22. I have really shaky hands and they forced me to give up some of my favorite pastimes such as photography and sketching.  I'm hoping to pick up photography again because capturing beautiful moments really was a favorite pastime. I think I've lost the patience for sketching though, but who knows.

23. I finally came to peace over some long standing regrets. I think this is the year I finally learned how to move on without forgetting.

24. Fingers crossed this birthday doesn't end in tears! Because the saying "it's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to" is getting old!
