Unboxing: Superbox #59 Halloween Special

Happy Halloween everyone! Originally I intended to do an all things Halloween with links to blog posts, videos, as well as pictures of decoration and pumpkins but that fell through because I was quite preoccupied watching baseball (whoohoo Giants!) so good thing this appropriately themed Memebox landed on my door step early this week so I am unable to bring you a Memebox unboxing, Halloween edition! This box was so awful and disappointing it doesn't even deserve the full Memebox spiel and experience here! Let's just cut to the chase and talk about the products that came in this box.

Project Pan Update!

Project Pan time! This will be my last update for awhile, I'll go more into detail at the end. Honestly there wasn't much progress made this month it was just a pretty uninspiring month when it came to my Project Pan products.

Unboxing: Superbox #57 All About Brows

I keep thinking the last makeup box I got was the last makeup box, but then another one shows up and I realize I bought another all makeup box. At this point I am bursting a the seams with skincare products so maybe it's a good thing there's a random surprise makeup box thrown in there once in awhile.

For those that don't know what I'm talking about Memebox is a Korean beauty non-subscription box that sells boxes of surprise products curated with different themes in mind straight from Korea! Like I mean your box is shipped to you FROM Korea! These are great deals because boxes typically run between $19 - $39 (there are more expensive ones) but the value of the boxes are usually double and often triple the price you pay!

This one is the Superbox #57 All About Brows which is a box packed with all things brows! I discovered a great brow liner from another K-Beauty bag so I was excited to order this one in hopes of finding some more loves. I paid $19 + $6.99 in shipping for a total cost of $25.99 for this box.
From the website:

Let’s face it. Not everyone is born with a pair of perfect arches!
But, no worries because we’ll take your botched brows to rehab with this expert approved All About Brows Box! Packed with all K-Style inspired eyebrow essentials, this box will give you everything to recreate the signature Korean look with full, youthful brows!
This box shipped September 30th and arrived on my doorstep October 23rd. This one took SO long to get here, almost a month! I hate when you do standard shipping it gives you a tracking page that never updates so then you start getting nervous.

What's in my Trash?! #11

I came up with SO many empties this week to the point where I had a busy few weeks so instead of photographing the items as they become empty like I usually do I was just tossing them into this bin in a cabinet under the sink and then when I realized my empties were due to be published I opened that cabinet and there was an avalanche of products! Not only was that bin overflowing my shower was getting cluttered with products too because I would finish something in there and decide to leave it to let it dry but then consequently forget about it and it just became a vicious cycle. This month there are some bonus extras beyond my usual 15 item round up because I'm working through my subscription box samples at such an alarming pace, the extras just need to happen. I'm also starting to hit pan on a lot of my makeup which is really exciting too (I mean you've briefly seen my makeup collection, hitting pan and getting to open something new is exciting!). A lot of these empties are old (or new) favorites but I'm going to try and not repurchase things because I have a lot of options to work with right now but there will definitely be a few exceptions.

Nails of the Week #17: Sephora Formula X in Alchemy

So and accidental trip into Sephora had me coming out with possibly the most gorgeous nail polish I have ever seen. It was a case of "I didn't know I needed it until I saw it" syndrome. Definitely a mistake walking in there but I don't regret it one bit. This beauty here is Sephora Formula X in Alchemy which is a limited edition color. It is described as a platinum with mixed metals shimmer and there really isn't a better way to describe this. It's so different from the plain golds and silvers I own, it's more of a silver gold with pinks, blues and purples in it. This was an amazing one coater but I did an extra coat for this swatch to really pack in the shimmer. I'm just so obsessed with this and I see plenty of wear for this. It's so chic, possibly a little holiday, the pictures really don't do it justice!

UnBoxing Match! October 2014 Ipsy vs. Birchbox vs. Beauty Box 5

It's a monthly ritual now to look at sneak peeks and just be disappointed. I'm seriously close to cancelling everything except for Birchbox which honestly isn't wowing me but their point system and customer service just can't be beat. I will happily continue to buy from the Birchbox shop but I think I might be ready to cancel these other cheap ones in favor of putting my money towards more expensive ones such as PopSugar and possibly FabFitFun that will be filled with stuff I actually want and like.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with these services, Ipsy and Birchbox are two custom beauty subscription boxes that come monthly. Both of these cost $10 a month and each arrive with 4-6 different goodies ranging from sad little foil packets to full size products! Beauty Box 5 costs a little more at $12 and delivers the same amount of goodies. I would say that typically Birchbox consistently delivers high-end skincare and hair care products with a sprinkling of makeup while Ipsy goes more for the mid-range items and is normally a lot of makeup items and Beauty Box 5 is mostly drugstore with an even mix of products.

Unboxing: Superbox #55 Free From Oil & Trouble #4

I hate that you have to sign for all Memeboxes now it, kind of drives me crazy because there isn't always someone home to do it! If I could only teach my dog how to do it...

There are two main kinds of boxes:

Memebox: The original box comes with a mix of 4-8 full sized products and deluxe samples.
Special: Like the original box it comes with 4-8 full sized products and deluxe samples but each of these boxes has its own theme for special occasions or events.
Superbox: Comes with their own theme and contains only full sized products.

This one is the Superbox #55 Free From Oil & Trouble #4 which is a box packed with all things oil fighting! This was one of the first boxes I ordered because I definitely suffer from oily/combo skin so I was interested to see how some Korean skincare goodies would do against it all! This cost $32 + $6.99 shipping for a total of $38.99. This was definitely a little pricier than I usually go for but I'm really glad I did it!
From the website:

Tried and true—our Free From Oil & Troubles #4 is filled with the newest and best trouble-fighting and oil controlling products! Turn down the shine and control excessive sebum with our Free From Oil & Troubles #4! This is the ultimate go-to box for covering those pesky little pimples, treating blemishes, and keeping skin matte all day! Our oil absorbing products are proven to work-fast, so that your skin is left refreshed, smooth, blemish free, and healthy-looking!
This box shipped September 26th and arrived on my doorstep October 15th. This actually got here faster than another box that shipped earlier which is interesting.

Unboxing: Memebox Special #37 Wake Up Makeup

Help me I have a meme addiction! I must say normally I wouldn't go for the makeup boxes but this one promised a free full sized gift I was interested in so it happened. Honestly as a sneak peek if it weren't for the free gift I would have been a little disappointed in this box!

Special: Like the original box it comes with 4-8 full sized products and deluxe samples but each of these boxes has its own theme for special occasions or events.
Superbox: Comes with their own theme and contains only full sized products.

This one is the Memebox Special #37 Wake Up Makeup which was one of the first boxes I ordered and kind of wish I didn't. For some reason I was thinking this would be more skincare and not all makeup. I'm not a fan of all makeup boxes just because I have so much makeup already and tend to stick to the same products. This cost $23 + $6.99 shipping for a total of $29.99.
From the website:

Fall Nighttime Skincare Routine

Here it is. My 13 step skincare regime in all it's glory. You thought I was joking? Nope I go real skincare crazy at night because I'm a strong believer in letting all the good stuff soak into my skin overnight and waking up with fresh and happy skin. I mean the skin repairs itself when you're sleeping right? So of course I'm going to help it along with some great nutrients for it to just drink up. With the weather getting cooler, despite having combination skin I still load up on the hydration because moisture really is the best defense against everything. With my oil getting in check I still have fairly acne prone skin that is usually hormonal and due to the fact that I have fairly large pores. Blackheads aren't a huge issue, my aggressive skincare really keeps that in check, but I've started paying more attention to anti-aging products so those are slowly getting incorporated into the routine. Enough rambling, let's just get into the products and steps!

Unboxing: Superbox #58 Lipstick Box

This week we are skipping the nails in order to put in Memebox Mondays! Okay don't worry this isn't going to become a thing but I definitely have enough coming to me that I could! I don't think I've ever mentioned this before but the price of the box I always list the full retail price but I always buy my boxes using discount codes, memepoints and take advantage of the VIP sales so I don't ever actually pay that much. It just occurred to me now that it looks like I'm blowing thousands of dollars on these boxes but I'm not!

Special: Like the original box it comes with 4-8 full sized products and deluxe samples but each of these boxes has its own theme for special occasions or events.
Superbox: Comes with their own theme and contains only full sized products.

This one is the Superbox #58 Lipstick Box which is the other box I got along with my Cafe Box. I'm not crazy about makeup boxes but this promised to give 10 full sized lip products! I just had to try it out! I tried to get this up sooner but I really wanted to be able to provide swatches but anyways, here it is! This cost $27 + $3.50 shipping for a total of $30.50.
From the website:

This is for all you lipstick junkies out there!

You can go through the rest of this month with the same sheer balm that has become part of your daily makeup ritual, or you can throw caution to the wind and try to something totally new! Team Memebox has hand-picked these super rich, super fun, super beautiful lipstick shades that will become your new lip favorites! From unabashed bold hues to classic shades, you’ll be ready to sport some vicious lips with these hot lippies from top-of-the-line Korean brands!
This box shipped October 2nd and technically would have arrived on my doorstep October 3rd!! But no one was home to sign for it so DHL wasn't able to bring it until the 6th. Boo. But still basically overnight shipping for express?? If this addiction is going to keep going I think I need to always just go for the value packs now...Also side note it promised 10 but in the end there were only 6 and they were all lipsticks. I know in my cafe box unboxing I said I was waiting to do this because I wanted to do swatches but then I realized I probably wouldn't want to keep most of these so sorry no swatches!

Mask Mania

If we're talking strictly skincare, I think facial masks are my most favorite thing, facial cleanser and scrubs come in a close second, but nothing makes my skin happier than to drink up some luxurious mask at the end of the day. I have quite a collection when it comes to masks because I like to use one almost everyday, it really is the perfect way to unwind after a long day. I have oily/combo skin that is acne prone and I have a decent amount of light scarring from acne as well as large pores (I really hit the skin jackpot here!). I'm especially interested in masks that fights acne and deep cleans pores but I have some hydrating masks for days where my skin feels dry...which is rare but sometimes it happens! I've split my collection into four categories: hydrating, deep cleaning, clay and peel-off. A few of these masks I have full reviews on so I will link those instead of a small blurb!

Review: theBalm Kiwi Facial Scrub

After the disappointment of the Almond Scrub I decided to dip my toes in a different theBalm scrub, this one is the Kiwi Facial Scrub. This stuff comes in a nice sturdy plastic bottle with a squeeze top and with all theBalm products it is paraben-free, synthetic dye-free, phthalate-free, cruelty-free & made in the USA. For $18.50 you get 6 fl oz of products, but as usual I snagged this guy off HauteLook and got it for 50% off. But spoiler alert, I would totally pay full price for this product because my skin is in love with it! It is marked as an item for all skin types and usually I wouldn't be too impressed with these kinds of products because it's an indicator that the scrubbing power will be gentle which usually doesn't cut it for my oily/combo skin but I really was blown away by the results of this scrub!
From the site:

Kiwi Facial Scrub is an oil-free, gel-based scrub with gentle granules that soften and polish the skin, uncovering your underlying radiance. Added Algae nourishes and simultaneously bonds moisture to your skin.

Unboxing: Superbox #53 My Honey Box

I swear the tracking pages just don't update anymore! Once it is marked as shipped from Korea I just get darkness until they mailman just surprises me one day. I'm not complaining (too much) but I do have a slight control freak aspect that would like to know where my precious pink boxes are at all times!

Special: Like the original box it comes with 4-8 full sized products and deluxe samples but each of these boxes has its own theme for special occasions or events.
Superbox: Comes with their own theme and contains only full sized products.

This one is the Superbox #53 My Honey Box which is a box packed with all things honey! Honey is a great ingredient for drawing out toxins, moisturizing and said to be very great on acne prone skin! Initially I wasn't going to pick this box up but after they released a spoiler I snapped it up immediately before it had a chance to sell out! This cost $29 + $6.99 shipping for a total of $35.99.
From the website:

Bigger, better, and sweeter than Honey Box #1, My Honey Box oozes with all things honey to enhance your natural beauty. Sweet!

Honey is a pretty amazing substance and there is a lot more to it than just a sweet tasting treat. Hailed as the queen of natural beauty enhancers, honey is rich in natural sugars and minerals that work to nourish and repair damaged skin. Its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties stop bacterial growth and heal infections, while its antioxidant-rich formula creates a youth-preserving veil over the face to protect against wrinkle-causing free radical and improve the skin’s radiance!

Take this one-of-a-kind honey challenge with Memebox to visibly see and feel an improvement in your skin!
This box shipped September 19th and arrived on my doorstep October 6th. This one definitely took awhile to get here and I'm not crazy about the fact that you need to sign for your boxes now, I may need to start getting these delivered to work but I really don't need my coworkers to know my beauty box addiction problem!

Review: Apothecary Extracts Tea Tree Oil

Facial oils are all the rage lately. I myself have fallen victim to the trend but nothing can separate me from my Passion Fruit Seed Oil anymore! From Argan to Jojoba, there are so many different kinds on the market these days consumer's are duped into buying low quality goods because they are failing to check whether or not what they are buying is pure oil. These oils that you commonly see now are all diluted to cut costs and in doing so they lose their potency and effectiveness.

Today I'm bringing you a review on an oil that was kindly sent to me by Apothecary Extracts for my thoughts and consideration and it's a good one! With all these companies pushing benefits of different oils, the original beauty oil, Tea Tree Oil, has been pushed to the side! Before Coconut oil as the golden child for fighting bacteria, there was Tea Tree oil first that was the secret weapon to shrinking pimples and banishing itchy scalp. Here's some quick background information on tea tree oil:

Tea tree oil is a concentrated oil that is made from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia or the tea tree, that is native to the coast of Australia. The oil is distilled through a steam process and is used directly on the skin as a herbal remedy. It is most well known for being a great ingredient to fight acne as well as treating all sorts of fungal problems.

The bottle that you can purchase from Apothecary Extracts is guaranteed 100% pure oil and they have the tests and numbers to back it up! Based on industry standards the oil must be composed of less than 15 cineole and over 30 terpinen-4-ol, this oil is composed of less than 5 cineole and over 35 terpinen-4-ol qualifying it as a 100% pure and unadulterated.

I've been having trouble with flakey scalp lately with the changing seasons and while this bottle came with a free guide packed full of recipes I simply mixed a few drops of the oil with my regular shampoo and after just a week of washing my hair normally there's a noticeable difference in the health of my scalp. I also like to use a Q-tip and apply a dab of tea tree oil straight onto any problem spots on my face, it's great to have a clean and natural way to fight acne.

One massive bottle (4 fl oz of product) is enough to last for a long time and is only $24.99 on Amazon with free shipping! Pick up your own bottle here!

**Products were sent to me free by the company through Brandbacker. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Nails of the Week #16: butter London in Yummy Mummy

My nails really need a break but I can't seem to go a day or two with naked nails, they just look so sad and are begging for color. Despite the scorching hot weather I am totally in the fall mood and I have set down my neons and glitters (those will be back with a vengeance for the holidays don't worry!) and turned towards the nudes and jewel tones. This week I went for a nude since the heavy glitter use has really torn up my nails as I'm scrubbing and scraping at it to get it off so I wanted something that wasn't in danger of staining my nails that I could easily take off. A return to an old favorite and my first ever butter nail polish, this is butter London in Yummy Mummy.

This is the perfect cocoa nude that compliments my skintone perfectly. It's classy and simple and I'm sure I will be wearing it a lot more because I've forgotten how much I love it! There's a very fine and subtle sheen to it, the glitter is barely noticeable but it gives my nails almost a glow. In my experience butter nail polishes are really hit or miss and this one is a 100% hit but I love the color enough and the quick dry time to just deal with it. Clearly I'm still in a blinged out nail art mode because the next time I put this on I was immediately thinking that some accent designs would look fab but I resisted and decided just to keep it clean and simple.

Review: Michael Todd Pumpkin Mask Exfoliating Treatment

Michael Todd has to be one of my favorite companies for skincare. Almost all of their cleansers I have tried and loved but for masks, it's been a mixed bag. When I saw a deal on Groupon for the Pumpkin Mask Exfoliating Treatment I didn't need to think twice and immediately ordered it.  This normally retails for $34 for a 100ml bottle. I scored a deal of two 100ml tubes for $19. I was slightly disappointed when it came in the mail because instead of the bottles with the pump I got two squeezey tubes. Small details but when it's advertised as something I expect to get it!
Basically this is a mask is packed with pumpkin enzymes, 5% glycolic acid, and nourishing vitamins that helps to clear blemishes, hydrate skin and diminish wrinkle. This product is a powerful exfoliant and not recommended for sensitive skin. So that's the basics about this product, a little background on my skin. I have combination acne prone skin that is not sensitive at all. Like it really takes a lot for any type of redness to surface so things that do irritate it to that extent I'm wary about. This product has a really strong pumpkin and spice smell almost to the point where it bothers me when it's on my face. It has a thick and chunky consistency but it is very easy to spread on evenly.

Mini Unboxings: Walmart Beauty Box | PetBox Deluxe | Freeman's Mystery Bag

I'm not sure if this is a blessing or a curse but I'm getting boxes almost daily due to my horrible spending last month. That being said this blog is bursting at the seams with content and I'm really unable to keep up with it all! Today I'm bringing you three quick unboxings of some sort of mystery box that are mostly one time purchases. I swear I'm not turning into a subscription box blog but there are a ton of Memeboxes that are slowly making their way to me still! Anyways, I won't go into a lot of detail for any of the boxes, nor will I do a complete list of products. It will just be a quick blurb about the box and I will possibly highlight a few notable products.

Review: Queen Helene Grape Seed Extract Peel Off Masque

Face masks. I think they are my one true love. Almost everyday my favorite way to unwind from the day is to put on a face mask. It's like a mini spa break and it's the perfect time to read a few chapters of my current book (right now I'm making my way through the Hannah Swenson mysteries!) as I let it set. I'm a devoted user to the Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque so a few weeks ago when I was at Bed, Bath and Beyond (you can read about the complete haul here) this guy caught my eye! This is the Queen Helene Grape Seed Extract Peel Off Masque and it costs about $4. This one is a peel off masque (duh) that is intended to clean out pores, soften facial lines, and soothe and tone skin. Taking advantage of grape seed extract, which has great antioxidant properties, it works to enhance your natural skintone.

Unboxing: Memebox Special #39 Cafe Box

There was awhile where no pink boxes showed up on my doorstep. I have the tracking codes for about 6 of them right now and obsessively refresh the pages everyday but it seems like they are just stuck and nothing is updating! It was a pleasant surprise to receive now just one but TWO boxes in one day! I have this review up today but the other one (sneak peek: it's the lipstick box!) is all makeup so it will probably be up next week since I have a crazy busy work schedule for the next few weeks so fingers cross I can do some swatches this weekend for it and get it up. I have a ton of blog posts in the work right now, somehow I am behind in my schedule so sleep has been sacrificed a bit to get back on track.

This one is the Memebox Special #39 Cafe Box which was my first value pack so I got the free upgrade to express shipping so I split the cost of shipping hence the weird looking value. I'm not a crazy coffee addict like everyone else at my office but I do understand the brilliant properties of coffee and caffeine for your skin so I was interested to try this out. This cost $23 + $3.50 shipping for a total of $26.50.
From the website:
Get your daily caffeine buzz with this Café’ Box!

Wake up and smell the coffee has just taken on a whole new meaning! We’ve rounded up freshly brewed beauty goods that will remind you of your favorite indulgent drinks from your go-to coffee joint. Indulge your senses in a swirl of sweet sin, and brim with delight with milky sweeties that will boost your beauty!

Set your mug aside and cozy up to this Café Box and see what’s brewing at Memebox!
This box shipped October 2nd and technically would have arrived on my doorstep October 3rd!! But no one was home to sign for it so DHL wasn't able to bring it until the 6th. Boo. But still basically overnight shipping for express?? If this addiction is going to keep going I think I need to always just go for the value packs now...

Nails of the Week #15: Essie Bachelorette Bash & Shine of the Times

Glitter really has destroyed my nails. The process of getting it off has made the surfaces start to peel. But what is a birthday without some glitter?? Like I mentioned last week I'm extremely behind on my manicure updates so this is actually the nails I had roughly two weeks ago. Don't worry we are catching up to real time because after this manicure I gave my nails a mini vacation from polish and they got to be naked and pampered for awhile. I can't even begin to explain what this is suppose to be, I got a crazy idea for something, tried it out, failed, but then turned it into something fun and different. This started out as a one color ombre where I just wanted to have color on the tips that ombres out to a naked nail but it didn't work out like the way I imagined it. So instead it turned into smudgey, blocky nail art. Yeah just look at the pictures.

This look was achieved using Essie in Bachelorette Bash my favorite hot pink, a makeup wedge sponge, and then Essie in Shine of the Times as an accent top coat. It's fun, slightly geometric, and still featured the half bare nail look that I set out to achieve. Also this was my attempt to shape my nails into squares and I think the left hand turned out pretty good while the right hand was a mix bagged at attempts.

Unboxing: BeautyBar Sample Society Mystery Box!

I've heard about these mystery box sales before but I've never been quick enough to snap one up! I tried to buy both of the big sample boxes but one of them sold out as I was having PayPal issues. Anyways! Every once in awhile BeautyBar puts out Sample Society mystery boxes that are boxes filled with items from previous boxes. They come in different sizes, I got the largest one which is 15 items with a guaranteed value of $45 and I paid $25 for it. I'm not sure if every box is different but the specific one I purchased was labelled Box B. I've seen other unboxings and there is always great values in the boxes and usually some full sized luxury goodies! I was excited that shipping was super fast and I got it less than a week after I placed the order! So let's just dive into a good ole fashion unboxing!
I won't even begin to name everything so instead I will just provide some close up photo sets of the items I received separated by category. Overall I'm really pleased with this set and I'm especially excite for the new cleansers and the full sized butter London nail polish! I will definitely be more dilligent next time and snap up more of these mystery boxes because I'm really pleased with the wide range of products I received and pretty much everything I will use or I know someone who will!

Review: Suki Skincare Transformative Cleansing Clay

Ever since I was introduced to the Suki Foaming Exfoliator from Birchbox I've been really interested in this brand but with the steep price tag that comes with their products I haven't tested anything else out. Recently(ish) they made their debut on HauteLook and I snatched up a few products to try out. To say I camped out on the site is understating it, there was a balancing toner that only had one in stock where I stalked the product page refreshing for five minutes straight waiting for someone to take it out of their cart so I could pick it up. I'm pleased to say I won that battle. Anyways, today I am here to talk about the Suki Skincare Transformative Cleansing Clay which has been repackaged and renamed to Transformative Purifying Masque. Like all Suki products it comes in a nice glass bottle which makes it look more luxe. This 1 fl oz bottle with a pump retails for $50! I got it off HauteLook for a much more reasonable price of $19 and I think it was further discounted due to the fact that it was the older packaging.

September 2014 Favorites + Unfavorites!

Notice something different? I've decided to start combining the good, the bad (and the ugly) all into one post each month. I am (thankfully) finding less unfavorites and it just seems like such a waste of a day to dedicate a post specifically to unfavorites. From now on I will highlight my favorites first followed by a small blurb at the end of any products that didn't work out for me. Who knows, even some months there might be no unfavorites at all! So September, pretty much everything went right for me.
