December 2014 Favorites + Unfavorites!

This month I'm going to refrain from gushing about the Rimmel Stay Matte powder even though it is the third month in a row I am using and absolutely obsessed with it. Most people stay away from powders during winter but I still use them because my skin is shiny enough to make it work. I debated for awhile whether or not to do a December favorites simply because in a few days I will put up my 2014 MVP, but then I decided to go for it since there's a lot of things I loved this month that aren't going into the round up so there really isn't a lot overlap here.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. Hi I am so in love with you! I love all of these colors but I especially LOVE Incandescent Light for highlighting (so soft, so pretty!) and then Dim Light as an all over setting powder. Usually I shy away from the dewy look, but this, paired with my Cindy Lou Manizer as a light blush, wow my face is glowing and I'm loving it!!
MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Lightscapades. Don't be an idiot like me and use this as setting powder. I claim dark winter mornings and sleep deprivation for this moment of insanity. Anyways, it is indeed a favorite because first of all it's gorgeous to look at, but also because it is the most shimmery gorgeous highlight ever! I know I was just talking about the Ambient Lighting Palette but those are more for really soft natural glows, this one is perfect when I want to literally shine like a star. Love love love. Next on my list is to get my hands on Soft & Gentle!
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo. Hello transfer free matte red lipstick!! I can't say the same for other shades in the line (like really Prague was a hot mess), but this one survived an entire night of sipping drinks at a club and I didn't reapply it once (mostly due to the fact that it didn't make it into my clutch for some reason)! I also just love how these smell like cupcakes and the way they feel on my lips.
butter London in Bobby Dazzler. I think this nail polish has been featured in enough of my NotW lately to warrant a spot in a monthly favorite. It's just the most perfect silver chrome that goes on so nicely and dries super quick! There's very minimal brush stroke marks left behind and I'm a huge fan.
Color Club Nail Art Duo. I've used these with basically every one of my manicures this month but they are so neat! I've actually had this white one for a really long time and December was the first month I tried it out. It's a nail striper and also a pen, so cool! I found out they sell these at Bed Bath & Beyond so I gathered up all those 20% off coupons that they send me on a daily basis and bought some more colors, it's my life's goal to own all the colors. Nail art possibilities are endless now!
C. Booth Milk Bath & Shower Cleanser. My monthly empties almost always features a St Ives body wash because it's my favorite, but this month in an attempt to use up my beauty stash I threw this guy in the shower and I think I might have found a new favorite. Clearly, I opened this pretty much at the beginning of the month and I'm almost done with it at this point! I'm not 100% sold on the smell, it kind of smells like tums, but it has a really thick stretchy consistency to it that I'm loving. It lathers up really nicely and my skin just drinks it up! It comes in a bunch of different scents so I think I may need to toddle over to a drugstore and start sniffing out a winner.
Mario Badescu Silver Powder
Grinif Collagen Aqua Peeling Gel. I got this in a Memebox and I was really excited to try it out until I realized the second ingredient on the list was Alcohol which is something that I try to avoid using on my face. Then I realized something, why does this have to be limited on my face?? I've been using it on my legs, chest, arms, actually everywhere and I'm thrilled at how soft and smooth my skin is becoming. It soaks up lotion a lot better too! Forgot to mention, this is one of those chemical peeling things where you spray and rub in and you get those little balls of dead skin cells and gunk.
Apothecary Extracts Tea Tree Oil*. This pretty much saved my life when I had a nasty cold at the beginning of the month. I was so congested and no amount of medicine could help me breathe at night. I poured a few drops into my humidifier, ran that all night, and I had no problem breathing and could sleep! This seriously hasn't left my nightstand since!

And onto the unfavorites!
Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. Wow this smells so bad, something like a cross between stinky feet and dog poo. I was warned about the smell before I used it but I didn't realize how bad it was. I used it exactly one time and it just smelled so bad I jumped right back into the shower to scrub it all off. Why would you make something that is just so awful? It's suppose to be really great though a miracle product but I can't bring myself to use it. Into the trash it goes after I take pictures!
Sephora Dark Spot Serum. Honestly I don't think it does what it's claims to do (reduce dark spots) but I'm here more to complain about the product design. Basically it's a tube with a flat mouth, one side you squeeze out product and the other side there is a built in buffer pad. There's no way to open this tube without everything shooting out everywhere because you need to kind of squeeze the tube in order to roughly yank the lid off. It's a hot mess. I think I'm going to squeeze it out and mix it in with another one of my serums which has a much smarter packaging design.
Mario Badescu Drying Mask. Another bad scent item. This one has a strong cigarette smell to it. It definitely works, but I used it as an overnight spot treatment (yes I did my research and I know it can be used that way) and in the morning I found that it stained my skin! I was in a panic that day because at first I thought the product darkened my skin so I was so relieved it was just a stain. But still! My face is not something I want to be scrubbing roughly in order to clean it so I'm not sure if I will continue using this stuff.
