What To Watch On Netflix

Netflix has been something that comes up in several of my posts lately whether it be lazy day activities or even date ideas so it just makes sense for me to throw together a what to watch list. I may have a very strange sense of what is good to watch but hey maybe there is someone out there who has the same taste in movies and shows as me. I definitely had a lot more shows on this list before because I love binge watching shows and I find it a lot easier to pause a show rather than a movie so that's probably why. Anyways, without further ado here are some things I've been watching on Netflix lately!

Healthy Nail Tips!

As an avid lover of nail polish and self-proclaimed nail art addict, healthy nails are one of those elusive things I'm always after. Sometimes my nails are rock hard and healthy and other times I have to keep them ridiculously short to prevent breakage. I think I have finally found the perfect balance for beautiful nails so I wanted to share a few tips that I've stumbled across that worked for me.

What's in my Trash?! #20

I feel like I say a lot of posts are my favorite to write but it really is true that my empties are my favorites! There is nothing more satisfying than hoarding a whole bunch of trash and then going through one day taking all the pictures and tossing it out. This is also a great record for me of every single product that has ever passed through my life so it's handy to glance back through these and see what I did and didn't like. Anyways, on with the show!

Nails of the Week #46: Rose Gold and White

I think I'm starting to master the whole light nail polish thing! It's still not perfect around my cuticles but there was really minimal cleanup required for this. Also this time around I used nail stickers rather than tape and I achieve much cleaner lines. I think my tape doesn't stick as well to my nail because with these stickers all the lines were smooth and flawless so if anyone has suggestions for a brand of tape that adheres better for the cleaner lines I would love it if you would comment and let me know!

This manicure was actually inspired by the Hunger Games. In one scene Effie had purple nails with gold circles at the tip and I modified it a little to make it more summer friendly with a white base and rose gold tips. I absolutely love it and this is one of the few manicures of late that I'm not embarrassed to post about. So the white is my handy Essie in Private Weekend which has quickly become my go to white. Perfect opacity in two coats, a tiny bit thicker than I would like but I think I'm going to drop in some nail polish thinner to fix that. The gold is Orly in Rage which is seriously a pretty color and I think it will need to fly solo on my nails soon. Or how pretty would it be to have the rose gold base and then some sort of geometric black design over top?? That would be so pretty using some stamps so I think I need to research and perhaps pick up some stamps!

Unboxing: Birchbox July 2015

This month the sample choice was a littler different. It was a trio of Stila Liquid Lipsticks that everyone got, you just got to choose the color. Handy really because I used to have one of these liquid lipsticks that got kidnapped by my sister so I got to the choose the color I used to have again!

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Birchbox it is one of those monthly beauty sample boxes where they send you a box of 5-6 (sometimes even 7 with bonus extras) samples and deluxe samples. Occasionally there will be full size products too! The brands they send are all fairly high-end and they have a point system and customer service staff that just can't be beat. For $10 a month you are able to select a sample from a select group of choices and have more surprises delivered to you based on your beauty profile! Have I convinced you to sign up yet? If so I would love it if you would do it through my referral link here! Feel free to also go to if you want to look around without any strings attached to me.

Review: Kenra Professional Platinum Dry Shampoo

I wash my hair twice a week for various reasons that one day I may blog about, but for the purpose of this post it's just necessary to know so you can understand why I am so dry shampoo crazed. I've tried dry shampoos from all different price ranges in search of the perfect one. I'm very picky about it, my hair must look and feel clean while not taking on that stiff feeling that a lot of dry shampoos cause. It's also tough to find dry shampoos that can last for several hours without touch ups so I'm a huge critic when it comes to them! Today I'm doing a quick review on the Kenra Professional Platinum Dry Shampoo which I picked up awhile ago at the Beautyland closing sale. A can of this costs $20, so it's not cheap at all!

This is a typical aerosol can with a fairly direct spray. I love that it does not have a baby powder scent like most dry shampoos instead it smells more beachy to me, a little like coconuts and sunscreen, but in a good way. Applying it there definitely is the white residue so it is not one of those dry shampoos you can just spray and go. You need to wait for it to dry and then brush it out. After doing so though I find that my hair looks and feels fluffy and clean. It also adds a lot of volume to my roots which I'm also a huge fan of. However I find that it lasts about three hours before my hair starts looking a little flat and greasy. This was a nice treat to pick up for a discounted price and it has nice instant results however it is not as long lasting as I would expect such an expensive product to be so this is not something I would recommend you pick up at full price.

Summer Beauty Essentials

It's summer. I think that's pretty clear with the millions of summer themed posts that have been on my blog lately. I don't know, something about the season this year has really inspired a lot of rambling on my part. So today I have another installment to my summer series that is sharing a few of my summer beauty essentials! I know a lot of these are pretty "well duh" items but hey, I'm not claiming to be the most interesting or original person here!

Unboxing: Beauteque Mask Maven July 2015

It's that time of the month again for my favorite subscription box! Of course I'm talking about Beauteque Mask Maven which sends me 9 different masks monthly for $16 a month! I saw the sneak peek for this month and was immediately excited because I knew that it would come with a foot mask! I'm still dying to get my hands on one of those foot peeling masks but that will come to me with time. I've seen them at the store sometimes but they are pricey! Sometimes upwards to $20 so I've been hesitant to pick one up, I'm still hoping that one will turn up in my Mask Maven one of these days!

Nails of the Week #45: Geometric Color Blocks

Every once in awhile I get the crazy idea in my head to try out designs. Apparently I'm limited to attempting semi straight lines because I have no creativity or steady enough hand for anything else! I think I need to work on just apply nail polish better because I'm embarrassed by the sloppy brush work in this and almost didn't post this manicure! But hey it's all just a learning experience here. I decided to do a sort of geometric color block look with the help of my trusty nail tape. I must say I'm getting a little better at cleaner lines I'm figuring out how to remove the tape to get cleaner lines and I'm more patient about the top coat to prevent bleeding. I still haven't mastered even coats of light color polishes, is there a nail polish 101 class I could take for this?

Friday 5 Faves

  • Inside Out. I absolutely love Disney-Pixar movies and this one really did not disappoint. If not it really hit home with me and has rocketed to one of my favorite movies of all time. In a sea of fluffy movies with recycled story lines and sequels, this one managed to touch on a very serious subject that can be comprehended by audiences of all ages but did so in a way that was respectful yet entertaining. It never felt cheesy and it really opens up the conversation on mental health. I don't want to give too much away but if you haven't seen this movie yet I highly recommend it for anyone.
  • Timebomb by Tove Lo. I don't believe I had a new favorite song last month but I heard this on the radio the other day and I just love it. It's upbeat and frantic and something I can play on repeat while driving with the windows down. It's a song about the high of falling in love even with the vague idea it won't last but just doing it for the feeling. It's lighthearted and true acknowledging that all love might not last but sometimes you just need to go with the flow and see where it takes you.
  • Maxi dresses. I went on a rampage and I think I have nearly every color out there now for maxi dresses. They are the perfect effortless look that is completely work appropriate but fashionable at the same time and just so easy! It doesn't take much thought to pair a maxi with a light cardigan and I'm good to go in the morning. They are warm enough for those chilly mornings but not uncomfortable to wear as it heats up in the afternoon. I always used to think I was the wrong height for maxis, all the ones I tried were either too long or too short but finally I've found what works for me and I'm happy to incorporate them into my wardrobe.
  • Kate Spade Emerson Place Phoebe bag. I can't tell you how long I've been searching for a new work bag, it's probably been at least 3-4 years now. I've used the same purse through college as a book bag that graduated with me as my work bag and it's well love to the point where the straps have started breaking. I've looked at hundreds of bags at this point and I finally found the perfect bag! It is the Kate Spade Emerson Place Phoebe and it is absolutely perfect. I found it for significantly cheaper off Amazon and immediately snapped it up and then it sat in my room for a full week while I contemplated whether or not I was going to return it but I finally cut the tag and I'm not looking back now. It is the perfect size and style which can easily double as a chic everyday bag. I'm so in love with it and can easily seem myself using it for 8+ years like I did with my last one.
  • Sparkling apple juice. Recently I've discovered my work stocks individual sized bottles of Martinelli's in the snack kitchen and it has become my guilty pleasure treat of the day. When I need a pick me up I grab a bottle of this stuff and I've just been loving it. Usually I'm not one for carbonated drinks, I'm not a fan of soda (except for the occasional Sprite), so my addiction for sparkling apple juice is a little odd but I'm just going with it.

Review: Skin Food Green Tea Foot Mist

I want to talk about something that's a little sensitive and perhaps gross to someone but I feel like this is an important review to put out. Not everyone wants to admit it but I'm willing to do so. I have stinky feet so every bit of help I can get to combat that is appreciated. I want to say everyday they get a thorough scrubbing and I go to sleep with them smelling like lemons (yes, not roses) but even if I'm wearing sandals all day they still get a little funky. All of this is a little too TMI I know but I really want you all to to have the full understanding of my situation so you can see how awesome this product is!

25 Summer Recipes To Try!

I'm really into the whole list thing lately. I find that it just makes a single blog post a really great resource for things, it's clean to look at and I like referencing back to these lists. Today is my collection of summer recipes that are either tried and true or something I want to try. They take advantage of the fresh ingredients available during the summer and are all light and delicious looking recipes. You'll see there's a common theme of corn in most of these recipes because it something I just love eating and I feel like it enhances many dishes!

Current TV Show Obsessions

I hope you all aren't getting the wrong impression with me but lately I've really been writing a lot about TV and movies and such. I swear I read daily too! But it's a lot easier to be watching multiple movies and shows while it is hard to read more than one book at a time so I never really have much to say when it comes to books! Perhaps I should start doing some book reviews on here, I think a long time ago I did do a mini review on some books. Anyways summertime is usually the time for reality TV series but that has been changing. There are a few shows that have been going on this summer that I'm thoroughly hooked on with two of them being brand new series. I thought it would be fun to talk about a few shows I'm addicted to right now.

Nails of the Week #44: Confetti Colorblock

Do you ever get a crazy idea in your head and then of course it never turns out as awesome as you imagined it? This was definitely a case of that where I thought it would be a great design to use some nail polishes I've never even touched before in my collection but sadly it just didn't turn out as cool as I was imaging it. One of the problems is that the shapes were thicker than I remembered then being, for some reason I was remembering them as more of thin flakes rather than chunky pieces so the color just didn't distribute as easily as they should have. I also feel like I didn't pick the best colors, I should have used the orange I had instead of the blue, but oh well you live and you learn.

Today I took three top coat effects from Sephora's Formula X and attempted to create a sort of ombre colorblock effect. I layered Mind Blowing (yellow), Maniacal (green), and Crash (blue) for this final product. Some nails definitely look better than others, it was hard to have a uniform and even look. I think it's safe to say I probably won't try this again because it was hard to get a hold of the larger pieces to really solidify the color and not have it look off.

Deep Clean Skincare Routine

I'm going to let you all in on a secret, I've been really skimping out on my skincare lately! The past week and a half I've been running around and so busy that all I have the energy to do is take off my makeup and wash it. That being said it seems like the perfect time to outline my deep clean skincare routine as it is something I plan on doing tonight to kick start the skincare craze again. A few of these steps I do more frequently but this entire routine happens about every other week and really gets down to the core of it all. I'm also skipping out describing some steps (toner, spot treatment, moisturizer, etc.) because I plan on doing whole separate posts about those. I also don't plan on naming products because sometimes the specific brand varies in my routine, it's just the steps and types of products that really matters. Anyways lets just get into it before it sounds more complicated than it is!

Review: Skin Food Black Sugar Cleansing Oil

It's been over a month of testing now so it's finally time to bring you my verdict on the Skin Food Black Sugar Cleansing Oil! Using an oil on your face seems like a strange concept since the goal is to always de-slick your face, however the best way to clean up oil is actually with oil since water alone is unable to do so! This cleansing oil uses mineral-enriched Brazilian black sugar to dispel even the toughest makeup and leave your skin feeling soft. A bottle of this stuff will set you back about $17 but it lasts for a long time since a little goes a long way.

This will be almost like a comparison review because I've been using the Garnier Cleansing Oil for months now so it is what I've come to expect cleansing oils should be. That one is truly phenomenal, it is inexpensive and easily accessible and I highly recommend that one to anyone. Don't let the fact that it says dry skin on the bottle deter you, I have extremely oily skin and as long as you follow a double cleanse routine (cleansing oil followed by a cream or foam cleanser) it won't be an issue at all making your face oilier or breaking out. But I digress, this is a review for the Skin Food and not a rave about Garnier.

Current Movie Checklist

I absolutely love watching movies but the problem is always finding the time to do it! Summer is the best time for movies in my opinion, some of the greatest flicks come out during the time. I know usually I do a long list of movies near the beginning of the year but it's firmly into summer at this point and I realize there's a few movies that I'm just itching to see, including things that have already come out! So I really wanted to share a few movies that I have yet to see:

25 Summer Date Ideas

I guess I'm in a very love summer mood lately because this past week this blog has featured so many summer themed posts! But I'm not done with them yet because I have (at least) one more for you today! While I did title this summer date ideas they can all be applied to friend dates too! This is a bit unusual because typically I like to make short lists full of descriptions but today I decided to just think up 25 different ideas and just keep it nice and simple in a list. So without further ado here are some ideas that would be a perfect summer date with just about anyone!

Fitness Friday!

When it comes to fitness I was no where near on point for June, a lot of excuses can be made but really all I can do is just do better for July! I mean the only one who is hurting from this is myself! Previously I mentioned wanting to do an squat challenge for July however I came across this ab challenge that incorporated a few different exercises that builds up to a completely manageable goal number that I decided to go with this one first. Plus it is a 31 day challenge so the days lined up nicely with July! This challenge combines leg lifts, sit ups, and planks with rest days every three days, and this time I feel like I can actually accomplish the planks because the last day of 110 seconds which is something I can totally do especially with the build up leading to it.

As for the food front of things, I've been working on eating a bigger breakfast that is more balanced. I used to be heavy on the fresh fruit and protein while eating very little carbs so I'm trying to incorporate some carbs in my breakfast to kind of balance everything out. I could definitely use some help with drinking more water throughout the day, that is getting pushed to the side, but I'm pleased that with the big breakfast it cuts my lunch a lot smaller and minimizes my need to snack.

It's still very hit or miss when it comes to reaching my 5000 steps a day, I can absolutely kill it for a week and then have 2-3 days the next week where I'm struggling to reach even 2000 steps. I need to start setting alarms on my phone to remind myself to get up and walk while I'm at work. Actually what would help the most is to drink more water so the natural urge to go to the bathroom would certainly help!

What lies within us

I've struggled with something for awhile and it's not a new feeling whatsoever but it's been going on long enough that I just need to do something to alleviate it. It's a little different this time because there's always been a clear reason why I've gotten this feeling whether it was not getting in my dream school, or the frustration of long term plans not going smoothly, or even more recently the inability to figure out whether I'm "on track" or not. No, honestly, I cannot pinpoint anything in my life right now, if anything everything is going better than I could ever dream but for about three weeks now I've found myself fluctuating between a constant state of normal and low, and for once I feel at a loss of what to do.

This isn't a desperate plea for attention, I don't want people to sympathize or try and help me, but I've discovered before that writing this blog has been therapeutic, I've said time and time again it was almost for a therapy reason that this blog was even started. I'm just here today to try and put into words what I'm feeling in hopes that it can help me understand and move forward, as well as remain a reminder of what was going on at the time.

I never want to use the big "D" word when it comes to how I'm feeling because no matter how bad it's get I still believe that I can pull myself out of it and I've always been able to, and that is something I truly believe will never change. My love for my life and the people in it is much stronger than any sort of problem I believe to have so I always view these times in my life as speed bumps. They are necessary reminders to be grateful of what I have and indicators that I need to slow down and reevaluate my life because my gut knows that something is not quite right. These times in my life are marked by long periods of dissatisfaction and feeling unsettled. I can go days without a genuine smile and just feel so exhausted and downtrodden. I'm not one to succumb to the sadness and stay in bed, that's only ever happened once, instead I force myself through the motions of my daily routine but I won't lie, the best part of the day is when I can get into bed and lose myself in my favorite movies until I finally fall asleep. I'm proud to say that I am at least a highly functioning zombie and rarely do people catch on that something is wrong because it's easy for me to blame my insomnia on any lethargy they seem to notice, and typically I like it that way. Saying that I'm proud may seem strange and off-putting to many, but I don't care, I am proud because I stand behind my feelings 100% of the time and I won't let anyone tell me that it is wrong to feel a certain way because it is unusual.
I like to hide how I'm feeling because it's easy for other people to tell you to just snap out of it, to smile and just be positive, and I want to really badly but I just feel mentally exhausted and I'm just sick of defending my feelings. If I'm sad or feeling down, why can't I just feel down? Why can't I just vent and complain about things without having someone to try spin it into a positive at the end of it? I just want to feel sad and defeated because right now that's what I need and I just need people to understand that and let me be. Don't get me wrong, I do understand the value of positive thinking but at the same time I'm realistic in that people can't possibly always be upbeat and optimistic. Sometimes you get kicked down and sometimes you just feel down for no reason at all and I just want say that it's okay.

I don't want people to understand or sympathize with how I'm feeling, I just want to be free to feel the way I want to feel and for people to just accept that. Sometimes you just need to feel alone because when you are alone that's when you're able to connect with yourself again. At least for me, I always need to pull the strength from myself to keep going and sometimes that is just something no one can help you with. I guess I don't really know what I'm trying to say here except that it's okay to feel alone but know that being alone is sometimes the best thing that could happen because that is where you will find your greatest strength to thrive. It's okay to not be bright and happy all the time because that is just not realistic, it's important to always express how you feel instead of just holding it in. And most importantly, you need to know yourself and do what is best for you. With that being said, mental health is nothing to joke about so what works for me might not necessarily work for you. I draw the line of closing yourself off at when you ever have any thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself, I beg that you stop and think about it and reach out to anyone at all. Stay strong and know that you're loved.

June 2015 Favorites

I'm struggling these days with this little intro bit at the beginning of each post, especially when it comes to favorites post! I feel like I just sound so repetitive each time, maybe I should start rambling about my skin each month because honestly that is a lot of the reason why I use or avoid certain products each month. Hmm let's give it a shot! So this past month my skin has been fairly oily, I've been breaking out pretty badly and I'm not really sure why. I tried giving me skin a break from my skincare routine for a few days to see if that would help with the oiliness but that actually made it break out, odd. My focus has been less on my face and more on other things so that will explain the random assortment of favorites I have this month. Fun fact though, when I first scheduled this post it was actually titled May 2015 Favorites, so good catch me because that would have been quite embarrassing to post by accident!
