Fall 2015 TV Shows

Here we are in fall and finally time for the fall TV show lineups! I really have a unhealthy obsession with too many TV shows but I just love following series as my me time. I like having things playing in the background whenever I'm doing things so it makes sense to be invested in so many shows. Fall is the best time for TV shows in my opinion, at least I have a whole bunch of shows that I watch. This fall/late summer there were also a bunch of shows that premiered that I'm interested in watching so I'll talk about those first before diving into the longer list of continuing shows.

Where's my Beauteque?

I try to avoid talking badly about any company but this has been the second month where this has happened to me and I'm just getting frustrated. A mixture between that and the fact that this month has been so busy I find myself the day before my unboxing post was suppose to go up and with no bag in sight I have no other ideas so here we are.

The Beauteque Mask Maven was one of my favorite subscriptions but as of late it's quickly dropped from the list. Unfortunately I purchased a year subscription not foreseeing that there would be some complications so I'm kind of stuck. It started last month when I received an email announcing that changes were coming. They said moving forward they would ship their bags in two batches and those who subscribed after a certain date would get it later. Now I had already been a member so I assumed it wouldn't affect me at all. Last month I received my shipping notification when I usually do but then it took almost 3 weeks for the bag to arrive to me. I received it on the last day of the month and thus it pushed my unboxing post to the beginning of this month instead.

Fast forward to now, the second to last day of the month and I have received no email or bag. I've seen that people have received them so it's just frustrating me now. On the website it says to contact if you don't receive it by the end of the month so I'm patiently waiting for that because this is ridiculous. I wonder if I can cancel and get refunded my money back but I highly doubt that. Until this gets sorted out I think it's safe to say I will be removing the unboxing posts from this blog because I just can't count on it coming in a timely fashion nor do I want to publicly support a company that is giving me such a hard time right now.

Birthday Recap

Is it sad to admit that the quarter life crisis is in full swing? Just kidding...kind of. So it was my 25th birthday a few days ago and I must say this has been one of my more celebrated birthdays in awhile. I have some fond childhood memories of some great parties: carnivals, ice skating, horse back riding, exotic animal visits, tea parties and more. Then also the birthdays as I moved through middle school and high school where it was the cool thing to have your friends bring you balloons to tie on your backpack and be laden with flowers and baked goods to show off throughout the day how popular they were. Finally we move through my more recent birthdays which take a darker turn and are just borderline depressing. I'm not a birthday person at this point in my life but I'm hoping that will change soon. This calls for a whole separate post, a jaded birthday discussion, but today I want to talk about the happier times of what happened this year.

What's in my Trash?! #22

Another month and some more trash to share! I'm getting back into the groove of using products again. I recently tried to take something out of my makeup drawers and found I couldn't shut the drawer afterwards. Turns out I had so much stuff crammed in there some stuff fell behind the drawers and it was stopping them from closing! That was a real wake up call that I needed to do something. This month I not only went through quite a few sample/travel sized items, but as well made it a goal to use up things that just had a little bit of product left in it.

25 Things to Keep in Mind

Today is the day, my 25th birthday. Is this where I'm suppose to begin my quarterlife crisis? Because that would explain a lot of things. Historically birthdays are all over the place for me, I prefer just a quiet celebration but I'm lucky to be surrounded by friends this year. Birthdays are always a time of reflection, to look back and see what has been accomplished in a year. I'm pleased to report this year there were far more ups than downs and I'm looking forward to what this year will bring. This time I've decided to share some quotes, a mix of old favorites as well as new discoveries and of course I needed to round it out at 25 quotes. So here we are for a blog post full of inspirational things!

Haul: Birchbox Store + Diamond Candles!

I've got a mini haul to share today! I was inspired by a clearance sale and the need to spend some expiring Birchbox points and conveniently both orders arrived at the same time. Hauls are scarce on my blog now (there is another one coming soon!) but these are always fun to share when I have them so here we go! If you remember awhile back I did a Wednesday Wishlist: Birchbox Edition and now was the time where I picked up a few items from that list. I received an email that my Birchbox points were about to expire and since they never tell you how many I thought I might as well just spend them all! I had over $100 worth of Birchbox points so I really went crazy in the store even going for a big ticket item that I had been eyeing for awhile. The other half of it was that I was scrolling through Instagram one day and I saw someone had ordered Diamond Candles. That reminded me that I like those things and I decided to shop their clearance section and naturally I found some scents I was interested in so I picked those up to. So enough rambling, let's get into the goodies!

Good Bye Summer

Today is the last day of summer and while it would be more appropriate to talk about all the things I will miss from this season, I actually say good riddance. It's hard to tell by the amount of summer posts I've had this year but it's actually one of my least favorite seasons. I think the worst is spring, that one thoroughly confuses me and allergies leave me borderline bedridden. I digress, if you remind me I can do a spring rant during that season, that would be more fitting. Anyways, instead I thought it would be better to talk about all the things I'm looking forward to now that it will be fall! This is hands down my favorite season of the year and this list only just scrapes the surface of it all.

Nails of the Week #52: Angora Cardi

Shout out to what might possibly be the most amazing manicure from me ever! Seriously it looks so professional and nice that even I'm impressed. I think it's a combination of the nail polish formula being and actually sitting down under bright lights that achieved this master piece. This will be pretty short and to the point since it is just a one color manicure, but it's such a work of art I just had to share.

This week as a nod towards Fall, I've selected Essie in Angora Cardi. This beautiful mauve-y berry color that is so wonderfully fall and beautiful. It was perfect with just two coats, and using a fresh bottle of Seche Vite I achieved this highly polished and glossy look to it. Now enjoy the pictures of this very nice manicure, these are nail goals and what I hope to always achieve with my nails!

Friday 5 Faves

It's been a hot minute since I put together one of these posts. This time of the year is just so good it was tough picking just five things. I love September, not only because it is my birthday month, but it is the beginning of fall, my favorite season, as well as the time everyone goes back to school so traffic and the amount of people roaming around drops. The flip side of that is going to malls during the weekends becomes a big no-no but I make it work during the week around my work schedule. Anyways, here are the top five things I'm loving lately.

Unboxing: Birchbox September 2015

Another month, another cute box design. I almost didn't pick a sample this month but last minute decided to and I ended up getting two of the selected samples in my box! Is that a good thing? Probably not since the reason I almost didn't choose an item was because I didn't like any of them! Oh well. But I got a bunch of samples this month which was super exciting.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Birchbox it is one of those monthly beauty sample boxes where they send you a box of 5-6 (sometimes even 7 with bonus extras) samples and deluxe samples. Occasionally there will be full size products too! The brands they send are all fairly high-end and they have a point system and customer service staff that just can't be beat. For $10 a month you are able to select a sample from a select group of choices and have more surprises delivered to you based on your beauty profile! Have I convinced you to sign up yet? If so I would love it if you would do it through my referral link here! Feel free to also go to www.birchbox.com if you want to look around without any strings attached to me.

Inspiration: Nail Art

I don't really want to be posting other people's nail art photos on my blog here but I do want to start an area with links to various tutorials and designs I would like to try out! I find myself falling into a rut every once in awhile, I'll admit I'm in one now, where I'm not sure how to do my nails. So it will definitely be helpful to have this post to look back on for some inspiration!

Irrational Fears

We all have them and I'm surprised this hasn't been a subject I've discussed yet. I've touched on it briefly before and maybe it's not the best idea to have all my fears out there, but oh well. I have a weird mix of irrational and completely rational fears, this probably isn't a comprehensive list but just what I can think of off the top of my head right now. At least these would be the most pressing fears that I have. I've tried to order this from rational to irrational for you guys here, so here we go!

NotW Hall of Fame

We're approaching week 52 of Nail of the Week meaning I've been documenting a year worth of manicures! It's already past the year milestone because there were a few Mondays that were missed in favor of favorites or other topics, but from my labeling, next week it will be "a full year". I thought it would be fun to take the time on this Monday to revisit some of my favorite manicures. Moving forward I kind of want to recreate some of these manicures and make a comparison to see how my technique has improved, or what it would look like using different colors. The possibilities are endless! Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order, of my nails from this year.
Week #1: Essie Fashion Playground & Hide and Go Chic
May 5th, it has been way past a year to get to the 52nd week! It's worth mentioning my very first NotW also because now I want to do a similar pattern. I've forgotten I've even done this and forgot how chic it looked. This would have been perfect for summer with a hot pink and orange colors but I think it will be just as nice for winter with a burgundy and deep purple take on it. Such an easy manicure that can look so different and unique.

On Remembering

It's not often I address holidays or write about them on this blog. Usually I carry on my blogging schedule as if nothing else in the world is happening. I mean it is my blog, I want to write about the things that are on my mind, and the things that I want to read. It's an outlet for me and usually holidays or significant days aren't on my mind. This time around though for some reason I was compelled to acknowledge this day so I want to share some things that are on my mind.

Fourteen years ago today, so not even a significant anniversary or anything, marks the terrorist attacks targeted at cities on the east coast, New York, DC. In the grand scheme of things it really had little to no effect on me. I was here, far away in California, clear across the country. I had no friends or family in the area, well an Aunt in Maryland but that it still far from all the activity, and I was young that I barely knew what was going on.

Unboxing: Nature Box September 2015

It is as I feared and I think I'm hooked on Nature Box! It took me more than the full month to go through the snacks that I was sent and even though only two of them were huge hits for me (and one just completely missed it) I still felt justified to try out more of the snacks in my pantry. Prepare for the long haul I have a sneaking suspicion this subscription will be staying with me for longer than planned. They have over 100 snacks and you can choose to either be surprised with each box or fill your pantry with snacks that they will select from to send you. I chose the snacks in my box this month and there are still about 20 other snacks I still want to try! One box of five snacks costs $19.95 plus shipping and you can choose how often you receive a box. I opted to get it just once a month and I'm already thinking about changing that! Let's see what snacks I got.

The Best Playlist Ever!

Every month you guys get a small peek at my playlist when I rave about yet another song that I'm loving on my Friday 5 Faves. I'm not sure if anyone is aware but these aren't just one time love 'em and leave 'em songs but they actually live in a playlist that gets played on a loop often. Some of these songs are silly and others are cliche, but each one has such an important memory or emotion tied to them that I just love them so much. I went back and forth about whether or not I wanted to share this playlist since it is so special and a little personal so I decided to compromise by sharing it without an explanation. If you're so inclined I've explained a few of these previously in 5F5 but otherwise here they are, the ever growing list of "best songs ever".

4 Minute Month

Ever since I saw this video from Ingrid a few months ago I had always wanted to make one of these. The concept seemed easy enough, film a few seconds everyday of anything and string it together into one video. I tried this in May and somewhat failed. I was just missing clips from the last three days or so, if there is enough interest I can still put it together sans the missing days. I definitely over edited this video so what was meant to be five minutes turned more into four minutes instead so here we have "4 Minute Month".

I really wanted to come on here and share this, I don't talk about much that goes on on my YouTube channel because I rarely post videos but I just truly loved what this turned into and even though most of it is mundane and repetitive, it is the perfect glimpse into my life. I hope to do this again, maybe for December or something. It's hard to do this for every month but maybe that will make for a great project next year which can culminate in a 365 day view of my life. Hmm ideas! So I wanted to share this video here and also walk through and explain some of these memories.

Nails of the Week #51: Pretty in Yellow

Little known fact but yellow is actually my favorite color. You wouldn't be able to tell just by looking since my room has a purple theme, I never wear the color yellow, and if asked to pick a color for something I usually go for teal. Yellow is one of those colors that are tricky to work with however it is what I gravitate towards when picking out patterned or designed pieces and it's just so bright and happy. It also matches with nothing making it a difficult color to wear and my room is just a whole other story. I didn't plan it but at the time when I was shopping for things, everything ended up being purple. So this week I decided to embark on a journey for yellow nails which is something I've never succeeded at. Heck I even went to a nail salon and asked for yellow nails and that ended up being the worst experience ever and now I refuse to pay for a manicure. It's not perfect but this is the best experience I've ever had with yellow nail polish so it was worth documenting.

This week I used butter London's Cheeky Chops which is one of the first butter polishes I've ever owned. It's a beautiful pale buttercup yellow, so not too shocking and perfectly appropriate for this transition from summer to fall. My previous experiences with this polish was that it was streaky and then got really thick and tacky when trying to even it out. This time around I used my handy Seche Revive to thin out the polish and then the amazing Seche Vite to just cement it all down. I'm still not happy with some of the edges but overall this is a pretty darn neat and smooth application so I'll go with it!

Fitness Friday!

Here's a big shocker, but Tone It Up August = fail. I was going really strong for awhile but then I missed a few days and just completely fell off the wagon. With me if I start missing days I kind of just give up and combined with it just getting completely insane at work it just did not help out. I did try and stay active and many days where I failed to do my workout I did make it a point to hit my 5k per day steps and actually got over 10k steps on multiple days.

Mini Etude House Haul

I had the opportunity to send another wish list to pick me up some Etude House goodies so naturally that resulted in a small haul. Being a member of their rewards program and since it is my birthday month, everything was heavily discounted, I received a birthday pack, AND I was showered with samples! This isn't a huge haul but I thought it would still be fun to share what I got and kind of give a small intro since I fully intend on reviewing these products that I picked up!

Unboxing: Beauteque Mask Maven August 2015

So the last day of August, my Mask Maven finally snuck in. It had to have gotten lost or held up somewhere because I got a shipping notification on the 17th and it took ages to finally get to me. I know the company is going through a lot of big changes right now so I'll excuse them this time. It appears they are now doing theme months and August is Troubled Skin: Acne & Pores which is exactly what my skin suffers with! I'm excited for this bag which seems like it was curated for me. This is hands down one of my favorite subscription boxes out there however I wouldn't suggest subscribing to it right now. I mentioned earlier but the company itself, Beauteque, is going through a lot of changes right now so things are a little messy. I'm also getting a lot of emails with deals right now which is never a good sign of something doing well, so maybe a few months down the line I would go for! Since I'm not in favor of anyone subscribing right now I'm not going to provide too much information on it right now but stick with me through the months I have a year subscription and I can give you updates as I learn them too! Anyways, onto the masks!

August 2015 Favorites

Another month, another round of favorites. As much as I've enjoyed the warm weather I am fully ready for it to be fall already. I want the colder weather so my face can stop being so oily and so I can break out the boots and cozy sweaters again! In August I went on a couple of trips so I did find myself slapping on some makeup. At the same time I had a crazy busy work schedule so at the end of the day I was lucky if I even remembered to wash my makeup off. I'm definitely off my skincare routine and my skin is clearly suffering from it. This month I have a handful of makeup items, some oldies but goodies, that warrant a shout out and just some random odds and ends. Let's get into it!
