What's in my Trash?! #27

I don't know what happened this month but there was a trash EXPLOSION. I was so busy that things just really started mountaining up. I do my empties posts this way so I can take a picture and then throw the trash away since I simply don't have space to collect up a bunch of empty bottles in one place. The good news is I'm really making a dent in my collection, but this time around I had things spilling onto the ground since I wasn't able to take inventory until yesterday when I finally sat down and wrote up this post! Let's go ahead and just dive into this, it's going to take awhile.

Things That Didn't Work

I don't recall if I've ever made one of these posts before but here are a few current items cycling through my routine that I'm just finding aren't working for me. Keep in mind something that works for me may be a holy grail for someone else but I just wanted to share my experiences about these particular products and what it is about them that didn't work for me exactly.

Nails of the Week #68: Positively Springy

I don't know how I did it but I managed to find a color that is pretty much a dead match for my skin tone. I've had this color for awhile but after testing it once and finding it to be very sheer I just haven't had the patience to try again. I also added another element to it with my favorite OPI topper since I did have some balding and streaking issues with the polish so the little flowers were good to cover it up instead of glopping on another coat. Fortunately the issue was on the same fingers so it worked out.

So the base coat is Essie in Worth The Wait. I believe this was from the bridal collection either last year or two years ago and its just a very sheer peachy light pink. It has a very slight frosty shimmer to it and it matched my skin pretty good. I used OPI in Petal Soft to get those white flowers which just makes this look so natural and soft. I love this and I'm a little early for spring but that's okay.

Unboxing: Birchbox January 2016

This month had such an odd assortment of picked samples that I actually opted out of choosing. Naturally I get 2 of the 3 items that were sample choices so that's just great. Overall I'm really not that stoked on this box at all. I really need to reevaluate whether I want to keep doing a year subscription or back off to a monthly commitment. I love the shop but lately I'm not crazy about the boxes at all.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Birchbox it is one of those monthly beauty sample boxes where they send you a box of 5-6 (sometimes even 7 with bonus extras) samples and deluxe samples. Occasionally there will be full size products too! The brands they send are all fairly high-end and they have a point system and customer service staff that just can't be beat. For $10 a month you are able to select a sample from a select group of choices and have more surprises delivered to you based on your beauty profile! Have I convinced you to sign up yet? If so I would love it if you would do it through my referral link here! Feel free to also go to if you want to look around without any strings attached to me.

Unboxing: Fabletics January 2016

I'm such a cliche when it comes to January but it really was a coincidence that this all happened. This year my boyfriend and I decided to get more active by going on hikes or longer walks with the dogs every Saturday. We're setting out on this as a way to get ourselves out of the house as well as giving the dogs the exercise that they need instead of just tearing around the house and yard like little demons. I have a great new pair of shoes to wear but sadly as I was combing through the rest of my clothes I was finding that they either didn't fit (most of them) or they were quite worn. The fit thing was a huge wakeup call for more. I really had no clue where to start and since I didn't want to spend a ton of money on clothing I decided to look into Fabletics.

Fabletics is Kate Hudson's active wear company and they have a great VIP program where you can get a discount on complete outfits every month. Membership costs $49.95 per month which goes towards the cost of your outfit each month which always ships free! First time users get an even bigger discount for their first month which is playing just $24 and outfits are discounted accordingly. To start out you take a style quiz which then suggests outfits for you but you really have the pick of everything available. You have the opportunity to skip any month between the 1st and the 5th and if you don't skip or choose an outfit your card will be charged the $49.95 but it remains in your account as a credit to use anytime.

I really had no clue on sizing for this either but after reading that it was a free exchange policy I just guessed at the sizes and went for it. I had the general idea that I want tops to be a little looser and the bottoms to be more fitted so let's see if I got it right!

Nails of the Week #67: No More Glitter

So I've been wearing way too much glitter lately and my nails are really suffering because of it. They got nearly 5 days off before I couldn't resist and just had to paint them again. I had this disaster of trying to use nail stamps that completely dried out my cuticles and shredded up the surface of my nails. This really was the longest I could go without color but I'm happy to report they're doing a lot better and are probably safer under a few coats of polish anyways.

This week I went for some favorites for a very classic plain manicure plus party nail. I used Essie in Warm & Toasty Turtleneck, this great dusty light purple a staple in my collection from a few years back as the main color plus Sephora Formula X in Alchemy II as the accent nail. The purple and molten gold really compliment each other and with the multi-color sparkle in Alchemy II, it's just lovely. Basically the closest I can get to glitter without actually using it because that ish is really starting to beat up the surface of my nails.

Friday 5 Faves

This week it was one of those times where I was sitting down to write this post and going there's really nothing new going on my life but then I started thinking about it more and I did think up some things. Welcome to another random mix of things I'm oddly obsessed with this week/month, this time including MAKEUP, music, an embarrassing game, and something really strange. I'll explain myself don't worry.

Movies To Watch in 2016

Another year and there are a ton of movies coming out that I'm so excited for! I'll try and link all of them to their IMDB page as well as a blurb about why I want to see it, but I can't promise novels about them because there are so many! It's very satisfying keeping a list and crossing movies off it as I see them. Last year I managed to cross them all off before the year ended so that was an achievement in itself. I'm not listing release dates this time around since last year that ended up changing for a lot of them. So let's just dive in!

Nails of the Week #66: Disco Nails

So my nails are really short and kind of damaged right now. I'm keeping nail polish on for way too long and I've been using a lot of glitter so it chips like crazy and isn't easy to get off at all. In doing so it's ripping up my nail surface so I've been cutting my nails very short to combat that and it's just not a pleasant experience. So what is my logic after all of that? Go for more glitter nail polish this week.

This color is Essie in Hors d'oeuvres which is this great silver nail polish that has a spray of gold glitter as well as hexagonal silver glitter. I didn't do the best job, there's definitely some awkward little gaps along the edges but I feel like you can get away with glitter nail polish more doing this. This color is from the Encrusted (disgusting word) Treasures collection from a few seasons ago. It was basically an entire line of glittery nail polishes that I only ever used once to swatch for this blog so I'm really making an effort to actually use them. This is a little sheer, it took three coats plus a few touch ups to get that even look.

Fitness Friday!

This is so late, this upload schedule/new year stuff is throwing me off! I can very quickly state that this month will be a repeat of last month except we're upping it to 6000 steps per day or 42,000 steps per week. I have the added goal of the one "active" day of the week so that should help to the increased step goal. Overall I think I pretty much killed it at this. I've prorated the weeks appropriately so I actually only missed my goal the first week. I mean it was significant, roughly 8000 less steps than planned but otherwise I crushed my goals all the other weeks. It does help that I got involved with work week walking challenges with my coworkers so the race to beat each other helped! Here's the detailed break down of how I did this month:

Unboxing: Walmart Winter Beauty Box 2015

I saw some pretty pathetic beauty boxes so I really lucked out. I think this may be the end of this subscription soon. It's $5 but it's such a random collection of items with no rhyme or reason and lots of repeats. I really don't need more samples so I'll think about it. The Walmart Beauty Box is a quarterly sample of products as well as coupons from Walmart. It costs $5 which is the cost of shipping and it is split between a younger and older box. Since I'm under 35 I get the younger box which normally just means more makeup and less anti-aging skincare. Let's take a look at what I got!

Nails of the Week #65: Pink Champagne Sparkles

These were my nails from last week which were for New Years! Did I do anything at all? Absolutely not, except talking my way out of working. But of course I did have to still sport fun and glittery nails so I just took two glitters from my collection and put them together. The aftermath was dazzling to say the least, but I liked it. Gave me a chance to use a brand new nail polish so that's always a win in my book.

So the base coat is Sephora Formula X in Capricious. This is just a glitter bomb of colors. It's a purpley-pink base coat with multi color sparkles throughout. And since that wasn't enough for me I followed with a top coat of Essie in A Cut Above which is large hexagonal pink glitter. As sparkly as a disco ball and very appropriate for ringing in the New Years. It was fun and sort of covered up how short my nails were since I'm still having weak nail issues.

December 2015 Favorites!

Hello January first. I'm so thrown off by my schedule, I feel like this should be a different post being the first of a whole new year but I guess a reflection on favorites from the last month is as good a post as ever. Once more I have a handful of skincare products to share. I've started introducing new products into my lineup and I've definitely found some stuff that isn't working out so well, aka breaking me out horrible, as well as some things I'm loving, but could also be breaking me out? It's still up for debate. Anyways, let's take a look!
