What's in my Trash?! #29

I mean do I really need to keep writing intros for these things? Also the other good question is how do I possibly use up so much stuff every single month to the point where these posts are actually quite lengthy? The other sad part of it is that I use so many products but rarely do I find any new favorites from my constant testing. Anyways, I finished some big items this month, items that I didn't really have backups hoarded so that could be slight issue. I used up some goodies that if you asked me a month ago I would have repurchased but now I'm kind of wanting to try something new. Anyways, let's take a look at all the empty bottles and packets I've hoarded this month, good thing I was running out of space in my bathroom to store it all.

Nails of the Week #75: Distressed Nails

Remember that nail art inspiration post I made awhile ago? Well I finally go around to trying out one of the looks and I must say they results are delightfully artistic. Actually I really surprised myself with how well it turned out. I followed this tutorial from Chalkboard Nails to get these really easy distressed nails. Like it's really easy and quick to the point where I need to come up with some more color combinations and do this all the time. It took no time at all to do and drying time was 5 seconds, I swear, so there's really no excuses here.

The basics of this manicure is to get your nail brush basically dry by scraping the polish off in the bottle and then using easy pressure to make quick strokes across your nail for the streaky effect. There are some places where I definitely didn't get enough of the color off but overall the effect works and I'm satisfied with it. Here are the colors I used: Essie in Private Weekend (white), Essie in Bikini So Teeny (blue), Essie in First Timer (green), Essie in In Stitches (pink), and Rimmel London in Black Satin.

Unboxing: Birchbox March 2016

This Birchbox came so quickly this month it was kind of amazing. May be there is hope yet for this service and me. Seriously every month I touch on the subject of cancelling but I am locked in for another year. I'd have a hard time giving up the point system and shopping in the Birchbox store to probably ever cancel but there may come a day where there is just too many samples for me to handle.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Birchbox it is one of those monthly beauty sample boxes where they send you a box of 5-6 (sometimes even 7 with bonus extras) samples and deluxe samples. Occasionally there will be full size products too! The brands they send are all fairly high-end and they have a point system and customer service staff that just can't be beat. For $10 a month you are able to select a sample from a select group of choices and have more surprises delivered to you based on your beauty profile! Have I convinced you to sign up yet? If so I would love it if you would do it through my referral link here! Feel free to also go to www.birchbox.com if you want to look around without any strings attached to me.

Unboxing: FabFitFun Spring 2016 + Add Ons!

The spoilers came out and I wasn't excited, and then the box came and I still wasn't wowed. I guess in general this box wasn't much of a hit for me, I'm really missing those snacks that use to come in the boxes! I wonder why that was something they stopped doing.

FabFitFun VIP is a quarterly women's subscription box, that provides a box curated for each season full of lifestyle and beauty products! It costs $49.99 per box and it is stuffed full of products (worth at least $100) selected by Giuliana Rancic and the FabFitFun team. Let's take a look at what is in the winter box!

First up I want to talk about my add-ons which I won't include in the total valuation of the box. I think one or two boxes ago they started offering add-ons which could be past products, or products from a brand that they've featured for a discounted price. Normally I don't pick anything but two skincare items caught my eye this time so I said why not.

Nails of the Week #74: Cute as a Button

I know these aren't exactly buttons but they make me think of the candy buttons and I'm just quite in love with this simple yet adorable look. It's pretty much firmly in spring now so it was about time to bring out the lighter pastel colors and possibly say good bye to glitter for the season, but knowing me you just never know, so I went with one of my favorite colors in my collection to create this look.

The dusty purple is Essie in Warm & Toasty Turtleneck which was actually a winter collection color, but it's just such a gorgeous color that I find myself wearing it pretty much year round. Then I went with a line of dots more or less down the center using my Color Club Duo Pen in White. It's a shame I can't find these things in Bed Bath & Beyond anymore because they really are awesome having a pen and striper in one. Overall not bad and it was really quick and easy to do too!

Friday 5 Faves

This almost turned into a Friday 10 Faves I just had so many things I wanted to highlight. What I ended up doing was coming up with a list about a week ago and then before I sat down to actually write this I started weeding out the items that I was less enthused about now and that is how I managed to whittle the list down. There's some good stuff in this list, I haven't let the constant rain storms keep me down!

Haul: Fortune Cookie Soaps!

This is kind of silly seeing how as I don't really have a functioning bath tub right now. But I was having a conversation with a friend and one thing led to another and suddenly I was placing a huge order on Fortune Cookie Soaps. This company is an indie turned more popular soap maker that creates a variety of bath products, most notably their fortune cookie shaped soaps. What I bought though was a whole bunch of bath bombs, melts, steamers, and bubble bars. I really wanted to up my bath taking game which isn't hard since I don't take baths. Any excuse to buy cute bath products really. I'm almost embarrassed to share this but these items are so adorable I needed them documented somewhere because obviously you use it and it's gone. Brace yourself for an epic photo shoot of bath products!

Nails of the Week #73: St. Paddy's Day

It's St. Patrick's Day week so naturally I wanted to go for a holiday themed manicure. I contemplated drawing clovers, or sporting a shockingly green look but after staring at my nail polish collection for awhile, two polishes happened to be placed next to each other and they were just the perfect pair. This year I went for a more simple and chic spin on things, even go as far to say it's not very holiday but I love how it turned out.

For the base coat on all my nails I used Formula X in Alchemy II for a nice mixed metal gold. Then on some accent nails I brushed on Formula X in Maniacal this gorgeous apple green matte flakes. This top coat is tricky to work with, it's hard to get the flakes to lie flat but with some painstaking patience I managed to make it acceptable for a subtly St. Patrick's manicure.

Benefits of Walking

One of my favorite activities that I have discovered this year is walking. Yes walking. I know this is something you do everyday but have you ever just left your house or wherever purely for the intention of just walking? No destination, no agenda, just to walk. This started with taking my lunch hour at work and instead of lounging around nibbling on food, to just go for a walk for an hour. Slowly this became my favorite time of the day and I really want to share some benefits from my daily walking trips.

  • Exercise. This is the most obvious one, any time spent moving is exercise and walking is fairly low impact. You can walk as briskly as you want or just amble along to stretch out your legs. If you have a desk job like I do, any opportunity to get up and stretch your legs should be taken so have an extended period of moving around is always great to re-energize myself for the day.
  • Mental Health. The act of physically removing yourself from work is a great boost in your mental health. It gives your mind time to reset and being outside will just clear it. Prior to my daily walking sessions I was under a lot of stress at work because my job is very demanding and high pressure. Now the stress didn't go away, but just taking myself out of the office for an hour in the middle of the day it became a lot more manageable and I was able to approach things in a much more positive manner.
  • Reflection. This kind of goes with the previous point of mental health, but these walks were great for a reflection time. Walking around outside just looking at nature, houses, people, anything I come across was a great time to let my mind wander anywhere.
  • Vitamin D. This probably should have been closer to the top along with exercise as being an obvious one, but being outside exposes you to the sun which offers you a shot of vitamin D. I'm not health expert but it's one of those things that's good for you that doctors always tell you to get so obviously it has to be on a benefits list!
  • Sense of purpose. Walking gives you a sense of purpose, like you're doing something instead of just lounging around and with that a sense of accomplishment too. Even if you don't have a set distance to achieve it's still satisfying at the end of the session to see how far you've walked and gives you the feeling that you've done something for the day.
  • Unplug. Walking is also a great time to unplug. You see those people who are walking and on their phone but you really shouldn't do that. It's a hazard to not pay attention where you're going so walking also forces you to tear yourself away from a tiny tech screen and really take notice of where you are.

Review: Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum

After I had the opportunity to sample a few goodies last month I immediately signed up to test the Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum. I didn't always use serums but once I learned about the benefits of serums and started sampling some different ones I was hooked. A serum is just a great punch of nourishment for your skin with more concentrated benefits then just a moisturizer alone. Before I really get into this particular

About the Company
The Roman Goddess of healing, Valentia, relied on nature’s gifts to heal the citizens of Umbria. Whether matriarchs seeking to maintain their youthful look or farmers seeking help for sun damaged skin, Valentia used berries, herbs, barks and other natural ingredients. We also rely on all natural ingredients due to their protective, preventative and corrective powers.

Just like our namesake, Valentia Skin Care products have been formulated with natural and organic cosmetic ingredients that will repair and protect the skin.

After performing extensive research into what skin care customers find most important, we found an overwhelming demand for skin care that is natural, free of toxins and paraben-free. Natural ingredients with an organic base have proven most effective at repairing skin damaged by sun or wind, preventing signs of aging such as wrinkles, dark spots, and reversing the effects of oxidative stress on the skin.

Nails of the Week #72: Tribal-ish

So I tried nail art again and it didn't turn out half bad. However the actual painting of the nails part, disaster. I've been going bare nails for about two weeks now and it seems like I've forgotten how to properly paint nails! It's true when they talk about the need for constant practice and all. Anyways, let's just get right in to the nails.

For the base coat I used Essie in Sand Tropez one of my go to nudes. My issue this time is usually it's an easy two coater but for some reason this time a few nails were coming out streaky and I was making it worse when I went in to fix them. I am about half way done with the bottle so I'm thinking the formula is probably getting a little thick. I'll need to put some revive drops in there. Then taking my Color Club Duo Pen in White I drew on some simple tribal inspired patterns on three of the nails. I think my favorite has to be my thumb with the simple lines and dots which I'll probably do again another time except on all my nails!

Fitness Friday!

Apparently it's really hard for me to meet this goal. I always start out strong and then it kind of fizzles out. However that just makes me all the more determined to do it. I'm setting the same goal for the third month in a row which is 42000 steps a week or about 6000 steps a day. I know I can do it, I get awfully close especially how some days I can walk a little more to balance out the days where it appears like I don't move. Well, let's just break down how February went which was kind of a funky month with the weeks.

February 2016 Favorites!

This shorter month, I really didn't have that may favorites this time! Just three items, it almost doesn't warrant an entire favorites post but I guess I'll share it anyways. Still wearing the same makeup on the daily basis as I've been really focused on cleaning up my skin. I'm proud to report that whatever I'm doing, at least the skin itself is very and healthy looking now so I'm just trying to find the magic blend that will help with the oiliness and the slight acne scarring I have.
