What's in my Trash?! #30

Time for empties! I got a bunch this month. I took advantage of traveling to use up some of my sample packets and I'm really trying to make a conscious effort to stop hoarding sheet masks and to actually use them. Let's just dive into it!

Review: Fortune Cookie Soap Steam Me Up Scotty!

Awhile back I had that huge Fortune Cookie Soaps haul and I've been slowly making a small dent in that all. I have yet to make my bath tub functional so the vast majority of the stuff is just acting as a glorified air freshener (but it is making my room smell delicious) but I've gotten a chance to use several of the Steam Me Up Scotty! shower steamers. If you remember, those were the reason for the purchase and everything else just quickly escalated out of control. I thought it would be suitable now to write up a review of these shower steamers because I'm sure there are many people out there who don't have the luxury of a tub but would still like a spa experience showering.

Shower steamers are a mixture of the same ingredients of a bath bomb with a higher concentration of fragrance and oils. The idea is that since you're not soaking in the stuff these skin irritating ingredients that smell good can be really packed in there for an extra fragrant experience To use, you unwrap one of these guys and place it at the back of your shower out of the direct stream of water. What happens is that the steam from your shower will cause the steamer to slowly fizz and release the fragrance. One cube should last about 1-2 showers, possibly even more depending on the length of your showers. Basically you can leave them in there and just let them fizzle out over the course of a few showers.

Initially I got these in a variety of scents but sadly I must say I regret picking them up at all. I'm not sure if I'm just not doing something right but I've tried using these in a bunch of different ways and each time I couldn't smell the fragrance at all which just defeated the purpose of them.

Nails of the Week #78: Gargantuan Green Grape

Still one of the all time best names ever, this week I didn't do anything fancy and just opted for a single color on my nails. I'll tell you, I love how light colored nails look but I constantly fail at applying them. Lighter colors are notoriously tricky to apply, it takes a lot of patience and a lot of very thin coats. Even so, the polish has a tendency to sort of pool near your cuticle making for a very thick and ugly manicure. I must say this week was a grand success with the color looking pretty even and the overall application being very good as I have some clean lines around the cuticles and virtually got no polish on my fingers!

This gorgeous mint green is OPI in Gargantuan Green Grape. What did I tell you? Best name ever! There are definitely variations of this color out there, one that is a brighter green and one that is a cooler blue mint. I have the cooler formula, but it doesn't make it any less beautiful. Believe it or not, every single nail has FOUR coats of polish on it and a few have five. In all honesty all of the nails could have probably done better with an additional coat since there is still some slight streaking but most people don't notice it and having six coats on some fingers would have been just too much. I love this, it's a perfect spring color that compliments the tan that I'm starting to develop from being outside more. It also gives me confidence that I can attempt more light colors and be successful.

Travel Diary: A Magical Week

I'm still in a daze after my vacation, the first vacation I've taken in quite awhile and I'm definitely feeling a little sad to be back into the groove of the real world. If it wasn't clear before (though I'm not sure how that's possible) I just spent a week in LA with three days hopping between Disneyland and California Adventure and a day at Universal Studios. I loved every minute of it and each day I stayed at the park from open to close hitting 20,000 steps easily and now I have the stiffest ankles in the world, but it was all worth it. The original plan was to vlog this week however I was enjoying living in the moment and I really only have a handful of clips. I'm still going to stitch together what I have but I warn you now there isn't much reason or flow to it all so I'll try my best editing. What I do have is a decent amount of photos to share which I'm going to go ahead and dump here for memories sake.

Overall it was a really great trip and I think the timing was perfect. It was the first week of non peak pricing after everyone's spring breaks so the parks were fairly empty. We also took advantage of the single rider lines and barely having to use fast passes, we got to go on every ride that we wanted to at least twice. We were also able to snag pretty much front row seats for both the fireworks and parade and some pretty good ones for World of Color. I hope you enjoy all the memories I managed to capture on camera!

Unboxing: Birchbox April 2016

Birchbox was pretty much a miss this month however there is one product that might just make it all worth it. I opted out of picking a sample this month, nothing appealed, however I ended up getting one of the samples still and it was the one sample that I really didn't want. I probably would have been better off selecting one.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Birchbox it is one of those monthly beauty sample boxes where they send you a box of 5-6 (sometimes even 7 with bonus extras) samples and deluxe samples. Occasionally there will be full size products too! The brands they send are all fairly high-end and they have a point system and customer service staff that just can't be beat. For $10 a month you are able to select a sample from a select group of choices and have more surprises delivered to you based on your beauty profile! Have I convinced you to sign up yet? If so I would love it if you would do it through my referral link here! Feel free to also go to www.birchbox.com if you want to look around without any strings attached to me.

Nails of the Week #77: Some Kind of French

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I did this. I can tell you I had an entirely different manicure in mind that involved white and pastel colors but somehow we ended up with glitter and blood red. Yeah I'm just as surprised as you are. I definitely had a vague idea in my head how I wanted this to end up and I'm not quite sure it got there but it's still unique I guess.

This lovely blood red color is Essie's In The Lobby. This color is one of my favorites, it's lovely and easy to apply and super glossy without a top coat so naturally I still pop on that top coat for a dazzling look. Using a dabbing motion I applied Color Club in Magic Attraction for the glitter tips. Unfortunately this isn't my favorite glitter however I think my favorite Sugarplum Fairy has died though, it's extremely dry and clumpy for some reason and the revive drops haven't been helping. The subtle difference between the two is that Magic Attraction is a pink multi holo while Sugarplum Fairy is a purple multi holo. I know, barely a difference but I just like the cooler look instead. Anyways, and since I knew it wouldn't be a clean line on the tips I then added some white dots with my trusty Color Club Duo Pen in White. I'm not sure what I'm going for, tribal rocker? Who knows.

Friday 5 Faves!

Friday 5 Faves! Sometimes I feel like this post itself should be a favorite because I so look forward to doing them. This opportunity to talk about my random obsessions is just great. Sometimes I feel like expanding it to more than 5 but for the sake of the alliteration I just can't. I mean fourteen would be the next number but that's just a little too much plus "Friday 14 Faves" doesn't look quite as nifty.

Ulta Skincare & More Haul!

So 21 Days of Beauty got me again at Ulta, and I think I might have gone a little overboard in general. For those you who don't know what 21 Days of Beauty is, it's a 21 day event at Ulta where each day there are different deals on projects. It's pure evil because the deals are fantastic such as buy one get one 50% off Clarisonic brush heads, or makeup palettes for dirt cheap. This time around I went for the 25% off all Mario Badescu products because I'm still on the hunt for some new skincare, particularly serums and cleansers. Naturally that lead to me just poking around and thinking "yeah, I do need more of that" and now we're here. Of course I'm still sharing this ridiculous purchase with you guys and let's hope that some of these will make the favorites list at the end of the month!

Nails of the Week #76: Disney Potter

Right this very second I'm at Disneyland. Well I guess technically I'm at California Adventure today but it's all semantics. Naturally I just HAD to do some themed nails. It's a mixed plate this week where I dedicated two nails to Harry Potter and two nails to the famous mouse couple themselves. I tried to think of more Disney things to have two different nails but nothing is more iconic than Mickey and Minnie themselves. I'm by no means the best nail art artist still but I love how it turned out anyways.

First up lets talk about the Disney nails. Using Essie in A List I painted all over the nail. Then using a steady hand (mostly since I wasn't patient enough to tape it off) I blocked off the top half with Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro in Black Satin. Then using my trusty Color Club Duo Pen in White I did the two large dots to symbolize the buttons for Mickey and the polka dot pattern for Minnie's dress as well as the white bow for her head. I know, the bow is technically red but I don't have a red nail art pen and I'm not nearly talented enough to try and use some regular polish for that. For Harry Potter I went with the lightning bolt and the glasses. The lightning bolt features a solid background in my Rimmel with a nice shimmery Essie in Shine of the Times on top to give it some glittery magic dimension. Then using the nail art pen I free handed the lightning bolt. For the glasses I used Essie in Private Weekend for the white background and using my duo pen in black for draw on the glasses. For the last accent nail I just used the Rimmel and Models Own in Red Sea to tie everything together. All in all some pretty fun nails, check back next week to hear about my trip!

Disneyland Hacks and Tips

It's no secret, or maybe it is here that next week I'll be going on a week long adventure to Disneyland Resort (and Universal Studios) so it seemed appropriate to share some Disney hacks and tips. I've been doing a lot of research to maximize time in there especially since I'm going on a non peak week, meaning that the park isn't open as long as it is the more popular times. I mean this could mean that the park will be less crowded with shorter lines but the thing with Disneyland is that you never know, it might be just as crowded with less time. This is long so I applaud you if you can get through it all!

Mini Haul: Etude House!

Recently my mom took a trip to Taiwan so naturally I handed her my Etude House member's card as well as a shopping list. Unfortunately most of the items I wanted weren't in stock at the store so she was only able to get a few items for me. I still wanted to share this mini haul as well as show you the outrageous amounts of free samples and giveaways that they stuff into your bag everytime you should there! I wish the stores in the US were generous like that.

March 2016 Favorites!

Favorites! I have a handful to share this time with a mix of makeup and skincare. I know this is rare. I had quite a few reasons to put on a full face of makeup this month and I challenged myself to try out some new products or some oldies that have been gathering dust. At the same time I put quite a dent in my skincare stash (but then I just bought a TON of stuff to fill it back up, more on that next week) so I was able to also return to some oldies that I thought deserved a special shout out again. Anyways, let's just get right into it.

Fitness Friday!

I know. This usually should be my favorites post but I've postponed that until Monday because I thought if I waited to do Fitness Friday the following Friday it would have been a full week since April started and that's just silly. So here we are, on the 1st of the month for once to talk about fitness from the past month and what is going to happen this month. Right away I can tell you I failed miserably. I have a lot of excuses but the main one is starting a new job without the luxury of walking for an hour instead of lunch. I'm still trying to get up to speed so a lot of my time was dedicated to working through lunch. We'll get back to there though. I had some good days but in general every day averaged more around 2000 to 3000.

So for this month I'm putting in the same goal that I've had for a few months now which is 42000 steps in a week or roughly 6000 steps in a day. I have a good feeling about April, I have a few reasons to be up and active sprinkled throughout the month so I'm hoping that will really motivate me to keep it up for 30 days. Anyways, let's take a look at the dismal numbers from March.
