July 2016 UNfavorites

It's been awhile since I've done an unfavorites post but there were just a good handful of products I've tried out recently that I just hated that it made sense to do one of these posts. Keep in mind what didn't work for me might work great for you since everyone's skin chemistry and environment is vastly different. I just thought I'd share some of my unfavorites if there is anyone else out there like me. I have oily acne prone skin that is typically triggered by hormones and not products. I wear no face makeup (just mascara and brow pencil) on a daily basis and do a full suite of skincare products morning and night. I also like to use double cleansing at night and my Clarisonic with a mild foaming cleanser in the morning. I guess the last factor in my skin is the fact that I live in California where the weather is constant and mild year round.

  • Yes to Coconuts Ultra Hydrating Melting Cleanser. This stuff was thick and oily and impossible to wash off. Yes I know this is targeted toward dry skin but since I have oily skin I couldn't leave residue behind. I was thinking this would be a travel friendly alternative to cleansing oils but I was so wrong. First of all this stuff is thick and chunky. It doesn't melt as it claims so it's actually very difficult to use to remove makeup. As a makeup remover it was crap too, it took a lot of scrubbing and it still would leave me with raccoon eyes. When I went in with the second cleanser to remove the residue, that didn't work either! No amount of mechanical scrubbing with my hands or some type of brush wouldn't do it. Two thumbs down if you're hoping for squeaky clean skin because you won't get it. On the other hand if you have dry skin I imagine this stuff would be quite great.
  • Juice Beauty Blemish Be Gone. The blemish stick that causes blemishes, just what I want. As I mentioned before I was looking for a new spot treatment to use in the mornings and the fact that Juice Beauty moisturizers have broken me out in the past should have been a tip off that this wouldn't work for me. This left behind an oily film and broke me out horribly. I'm still suffering from huge clusters of acne right now, my skin hasn't been this bad for two years now and it's terrifying. I definitely don't recommend this stuff at all.
  • SheaMoisture African Black Soap Problem Skin Toner. Something else that messed with my skin chemistry was this stuff. African Black Soap works great with my skin as a cleanser for treating acne but apparently when you turn it into a toner it causes my skin to feel gritty and dirty all day as well as make it rough and acne ridden. Sad this didn't work out but glad that I know this now.
  • Mario Badescu Special Cleansing Lotion C. Something else that left an oily residue and made my skin feel rough and grimy was this stuff. I'm not sure what it is in here that my skin isn't a fan of but this is one of the worst toners I've used in a long time. I guess I'm better off sticking with the Grapefruit Glycolic one now that I found serums and creams that would work with that astringent.
  • Matrix Biolage Volume Bloom Conditioner. Volumizing products are suppose to strip your hair of oils hence why your hair feels so lightweight and volumized (helpful hint if you need a clarifying product in a pinch) this did just the opposite. My hair felt weighted down and by the next day it was itchy and oily. This conditioner did not jive with my hair at all but at least now it's a fancy shaving lotion slash moisturizer for my legs.
  • Etude House Moistfull Collagen Sleeping Pack. I know that sleeping packs are never suppose to completely dry on your face because that's kind of point of them but this takes it to a whole other level. This stuff feels sticky and thick no matter how light handed you are with it. It also makes my face feel hot as if the product is literally coating my face and trapping all the heat of my skin in. Not pleasant, I'm pretty sure I sweat throughout the night whenever I wear this stuff because my skin feels that way in the morning and everything is quite damp feeling. Gross I know.
  • Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick. Last thing is something that just makes no sense to me (and as an added bonus broke me out) but this brow pencil has a glossy finish. Why would anyone want shiny brows?! What does this mean exactly? My already oily skin gives my brows this nice shiny glow by the end of the day anyways so if I were to use this stuff I was blessed to start out the day that way and then it just got so much worse. This stuff also wipes off SO easily that if I even tap anywhere near my brows lightly, whoosh brow gone. This also means you can't do touch ups because the act of feathering a pencil to fill in any bald spots will actually grab off any color that is there. Yeah this is utter crap.
